SEOUL, July 23, 2013 — LG Electronics (LG) today introduced the first OLED TV for sale to customers in the United States, becoming the first TV manufacturer to bring the next generation technology to the largest premium TV market in the world. First unveiled at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, LG’s CURVED OLED TV (Model 55EA9800) will be available exclusively at Best Buy, the world’s largest consumer-electronics retailer store.

Global demand for OLED TV is expected to grow to more than 7 million units by 2016, according to DisplaySearch. LG is the first company to commercialize both the flat screen OLED TV, which went on sale in Korea in January, and the innovative new CURVED OLED TV, which began sales in Korea in April. Availability of the CURVED OLED TV in other markets will be announced at a later date.

 

Featuring a gently curved screen and LG’s own WRGB OLED technology, the CURVED OLED TV offers exceptional picture quality and an immersive viewing experience. The cutting-edge TV has been awarded the prestigious Red Dot: Best of the Best honor and is recognized by respected international product testing and certification bodies TÜV Rheinland, Intertek and VDE. SEOUL, July 12, 2013 — Expanding on the strong interest surrounding its 84-inch ULTRA High Definition TV, LG Electronics (LG) today announced the addition of 55- and 65-inch ULTRA HD TV models in markets around the world, enabling even more consumers to enjoy the benefits of 4K technology. Initially introduced in South Korea last month, the two LA9700 series ULTRA HD TVs were rolled out in the United States this week and will be followed by introductions in overseas markets such as the U.K., Russia and Australia.

The new LA9700 series delivers unbelievable picture quality with more than four times the screen resolution of conventional HD TVs. The 55- and 65-inch ULTRA HD TVs produce incredibly sharp images with a resolution of 8.3 million pixels per frame. The Tru-ULTRA HD Engine maximizes image clarity and provides exceptional up-scaling, enabling consumers to view any video format in near-ULTRA HD quality. SEOUL, July 10, 2013 ㅡ LG Electronics (LG) held an opening ceremony for its new Incheon campus on July 10. The site, which will soon play host to around 800 Vehicle Components (VC) Company employees, is located in South Korea’s Incheon Metropolitan City andcovers an area of more than 100,000 square meters. LG has invested KRW over 300 billion to develop the facility designed specifically for the integrated, streamlined development of new automotive components. It is expected that the Incheon site will become the major base of operations for the new VC Company, a future growth engine for LG.

The core divisions of LG’s VC Company are currently in the process of relocating to the new campus. All three of the VC Company’s divisions -In- Vehicle Infotainment (IVI); Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Motor (H&M); Vehicle Engineering (VE) – will all call the Incheon complex home.

Some of the exciting new automotive technologies that will be developed at the campus include the next generation of vehicle components, hybrid car components, in-car infotainment systems, motor components and compressors for automotive heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

With a variety of testing and research facilities, LG’s Incheon campus will enable the newly established VC Company to streamline R&D. The site features four main buildings: a laboratory for the creation of integrated engineering solutions for product design, a manufacturing building for the construction and testing of key products and technologies, a testing facility for assessing the performance, durability, and energy efficiency of new automotive components, and an environmental testing facility for the measurement of product performance and durability under various simulated climatic and weather conditions.

SEOUL, July 4, 2013 — LG Electronics (LG) today announced that its CURVED OLED TV has been certified energy efficient and designed with the environment in mind by three separate certification bodies: Intertek, the European Commission and the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT).

To earn the Green Leaf Mark from Intertek, a product must be able to meet the most stringent set of performance and manufacturing standards. In addition to employing a comprehensive battery of standardized tests to evaluate a product’s environmental impact, Intertek also investigates the technologies and methods used throughout the manufacturing process. A stamp of approval from Intertek, one of the most respected testing and certification organizations in the world, is viewed as a guarantee of quality and performance.

 

LG’s CURVED OLED TV has also been awarded the European Commission’s EU Ecolabel. This prestigious label certifies that a product has been manufactured without negatively impacting the environment. The towering 8.7m high, 11.1m wide larger-than-life installation sits at the heart of Terminal One at the Central Piazza and is designed to allow travelers arriving or passing through Singapore to easily and conveniently connect with friends and loved ones thousands of miles away.

 

Symbolizing the global connections offered by the airport,which bagged the Skytrax 2013 World’s Best Airport award, the hi-tech installation is comprised of 64 47-inch LG 47WV30 displays in the form of a cylindrical video wall and eight kiosks where travelers canpost images and also share photographs and videos via Facebook and email. The design furthermore incorporates 100 bars that stretch up and flex outwards, symbolizing Changi Airport’s international reach.

Travelers’photos can also be posted to the cylindrical video wall and layered over images of Singapore’s skyline, aquarium, forests, city streets and high-tech buildings, for travelers to leave a record of their time in Singapore. A password-protected account allows visitors to save images and videos in the Social Tree’s servers to be retrieved at a later date.

 

LG’s cutting-edge displays that form the “trunk” of the Social Tree employ IPS display technology, providing exceptionally vivid colors and crisp picture quality. The IPS panels offer a 178-degree viewing angle for a clear view of the video wall from almost any angle. The thin 6.3mm bezel around each display minimizes the gap between panels while the advanced auto calibration software maintains consistent color and brightness. LG and IVI Initiate Vaccination Campaign in Africa

Effort Will Immunize 20K Ethiopians Against Cholera and AWD

SEOUL, June 17, 2013 — Commencing on International Day of the African Child on June 16, LG Electronics and the International Vaccine Institute (IVI), in collaboration with local partners, will launch a public awareness and vaccination campaign to reduce acute watery diarrheal disease (AWD) resulting from cholera infections. The organizations expect to vaccinate more than 20,000 residents in selected districts of West Arsi Zone in Ethiopia’s Oromia Region.

LGE has been supporting IVI’s vaccine program in Ethiopia since 2010 to stem the spread of AWD. Together, the organizations conducted vaccine safety research in collaboration with Ethiopia’s Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) over a period of three years to confirm the vaccine’s suitability for Ethiopians. Starting next month, LG and IVI officials will visit major cities in the Oromia Region to educate citizens on the importance of the vaccine. From October to December, teams will administer free vaccinations in collaboration with the Ethiopian Health and Nutrition Research Institute (EHNRI). The easy-to-administer liquid vaccine, which only requires two doses over a two-week period, was developed by IVI and received pre-approval from the World Health Organization.

“It has been an honor working with IVI to bring vaccines to Ethiopia and we are delighted that our contribution will be able to make such an important difference in the quality of life of Ethiopians,” said Sang-geon Nam, Executive Vice President at LG Electronics. “This endeavor is representative of LG’s ongoing mission to play a larger role as a socially caring corporate citizen on global issues.”

“LG’s sponsorship of this project has been invaluable and a crucially important response to Africa’s cholera crisis,” said Dr. Samuel Teshome, an Ethiopian scientist working with IVI. “LG has made significant investments in the biomedical field, specifically in countries affected by extreme poverty.”

Tackling big issues on the African continent has been a priority for LG for years. In partnership with LG Corp., LG Electronics introduced the “LG Hope Community” Program in 2013 to promote economic development in Ethiopian communities. LG is also focusing on creating self-sufficient farming villages through infrastructure improvement projects and productivity improvement training. Plans are being put into place to establish a vocational school to transfer LG’s technological know-how to Ethiopians and to develop programs to support the descendants of Korean War veterans in an effort to foster young talent and create job opportunities in the region.

SEOUL, June 14, 2013 — At InfoComm 2013, one of the world’s premier commercial AV tradeshows held in Orlando, Florida (USA) from June 12-14, LG Electronics digital signage technology earned four top industry awards for four different signage solutions from Commercial Integrator, Rental & Staging System, AV Technology and System Contractor News magazines.

 

Advanced LG products honored at InfoComm include its 84-inch WS70MS-B Ultra HD LED Display, 47-inch WX50MF High Brightness Outdoor Display, 55-inch WV70MS-B LED Super Narrow Bezel Video Wall, and all-in-one EzSign TV (LT560E) solution, respectively.

 

In its third year, the prestigious Commercial Integrator BEST Awards program recognized superior products and services for an integration business. The winners of the BEST Awards were chosen by a panel of industry experts, integrators and the editors of Commercial Integrator magazine. LG’s 84-inch Widescreen Ultra HD Display received the “BEST Award” for TVs/Monitors, providing the peak in picture clarity featuring Ultra HD technology, which quadruples FULL HD resolution to 8 million pixels.

 

Considered among the top honors in the commercial staging and AV market, the Rental & Staging Systems Awards showcase the most innovative commercial AV products. LG’s 47-inch class Outdoor Display (47W50MF) was named the winner for the “Best Flat Panel Display” category. With LG’s In-Plane Switching (IPS) technology, it is heat resistance up to 230 degrees Fahrenheit and Shine Out™ technology, which is designed to deflect ambient light, making it a well-suited solution for delivering messages in outdoor spaces.

 

The AV Technology “Best” Awards recognize exceptional products for cutting-edge AV solutions. The publications editors selected winners, announcing LG’s 55-inch class WV70MS-B the “Best New Video Wall” as it offers a superior solution for the AV professional with IPS technology with a super narrow bezel.

 

For two years running LG’s EzSign TV won digital signage hardware awards at InfoComm and it continued its dominance this year, taking the “Most Innovative Digital Signage Player Product” award by System Contractor News. The EzSign offers businesses the ability to display customizable content that can run simultaneously with live TV or another external media source, attracting attention while delivering messaging to consumers. Users can create content using the easy-to-use, free software provided by LG along with 55 premade templates.

RATINGEN, GERMANY, June 7, 2013 — LG Electronics (LG) received a special award as Global Technology Innovator 2013 yesterday at the Plus X Award Night in Cologne, Germany. The Plus X Award is one of the most significant European innovation prizes for technology, sport and lifestyle and serves as a seal of approval for high-quality brands. It was the first time in the Plus X Award’s ten-year history that awards went to 17 products from a single manufacturer. The LG products, including the flagship smartphone Optimus G and the first ULTRA HD TV, were consistent winners in the categories of Innovation, High Quality, Design, Ecology and Ease of Use.

In the Home Appliances category, the side-by-side refrigerator GS 9366 NECZ received honors for features such as its environmental compatibility and high energy efficiency. Thanks to LG’s Linear Compressor technology, the refrigeratorhas an A++ energy efficiency rating and uses up to 40 percent less energy than comparable appliances with an A rating. The Smart Eco Door and the storage compartment behind it make it possible to easily access frequently used foods without having to fully open the refrigerator. Less cooled air escapes, foods stay fresh longer, and energy consumption is significantly reduced.

 

EA93 Monitor in Ultra-Wide Format

The EA93 UltraWide Monitor is the first monitor in the world with a picture format of 21:9. The 29-inch (73.6 cm) screen not only offers ample space to display documents, pictures and films, but also has a four-screen split function and fully covers the sRGB color space as well. Along with high-quality and true-to-life color rendering, the monitor offers a number of innovative features that fulfill multimedia dreams, whether in the office or the living room. LG’S ADVANCED VIDEO CONFERENCE SYSTEM SETS NEW BENCHMARK IN INDUSTRY

Designed to Maximize Communications Efficiency, LG Offers

High Quality H.264 Video Compression and Smart Web-based Recording

SEOUL, June 4, 2013 ㅡ LG Electronics (LG) today announced the launch of its new VR5010H video conference system (VCS), providing businesses with an exceptional audio-visual communications tool that supports advanced H.264 High Profile video codec and outstanding QoS (Quality of Service) technology. The VR5010H is also compatible with VCS solutions from other manufacturers and upgradable to 4-way multi codec.

 

Audio-visual conferencing devices are becoming more and more commonplace in the business world as companies look to trim non-essential business travel and technology gets better and more affordable. The global VCS market, worth an estimated USD 2.6 billion annually, is dominated by two U.S. companies. Together, these two Silicon Valley companies account for more than 69 percent of all VCS devices sold.

 

“LG offers a comprehensive lineup of world-class video conference systems for all types of corporate customers,” said Seog-ho Ro, senior vice president of LG Electronics. “Capable of meeting a wide variety of enterprise needs, our VCS products will incorporate LG’s cutting edge audio-visual transmission technologies for highly stable transmission in any conditions as well as being easy-to-use.”

 

LG’s VCS incorporates standard based FEC (Forward Error Correction) technology which optimizes performance on top of dynamic bandwidth adaptation technology by compensating for packet loss to ensure better audio and video quality and smoother data transmission regardless of network conditions. LG’s VR5010H can provide seamless high-definition picture quality by adopting H.264 High Profile video codec, which means almost half the network bandwidth is required by conventional VCS products’ H.264 Baseline Profile for HD transmission.

 

With the VR5010H, LG is introducing a number of important features and functions as standards to make video conferencing as convenient to use as possible. Dual Streaming offers greater efficiency by allowing conference participants to see each other while sending and viewing files at the same time. Dual Display technology enables the VR5010H to show content across two separate screens for professional usage. And the device’s web-based recording function eliminates the hassle of having to connect and configure additional equipment, enabling monitoring and reviewing the conference with no additional charge.

 

The VR5010H also comes with a universal remote so users can adjust the settings on the connected display1 in addition to being able to control the angle and direction of the camera unit. And with quick automatic focus and 7x zooming camera, low lens distortion and support for HD (1280 x 720p) screen resolution, LG’s new VCS is set to impress with amazingly crisp image quality even in the low light environments. What’s more, with enhanced noise cancelling technology, conference participants will be able concentrate on each other, not on background distractions.

 

LG’s 4-way multi codec model, V5500, was introduced in June of last year. LG’s VCS lineup will be available in select countries including the United States, China, Russia,and India among other markets, starting this week. To complement the VR5010H, LG will introduce a Full HD version, model name VR5500F, next month as well.
