LG ELECTRONICS, LG INNOTEK REACH GLOBAL SETTLEMENT WITH OSRAM OVER LED PATENT LITIGATION

SEOUL, Nov. 2, 2012 -– OSRAM GmbH, LG Electronics Inc. and LG Innotek Co. Ltd. have agreed to settle all LED patent litigation between LG and Osram worldwide. Under the agreement, executed October 31, 2012, the parties will dismiss all patent disputes pending in various countries including the United States, Germany, South Korea, Japan and China.
As part of the settlement, the parties also have reached a license agreement for their respective LED patent portfolios. The parties agreed to keep the details of the settlement confidential.
“We are very much satisfied with the settlement reached. It is our long-standing policy to reach license agreements with other manufacturers of LED products. Consequently, we highly appreciate this settlement with LG Electronics and LG Innotek,” said Aldo Kamper, CEO of Osram Opto Semiconductors.

Whereas conventional touchscreens enable two-finger dragging, scrolling and pinching, LG’s 23-inch Touch 10 monitor allows all ten fingers to be used simultaneously. The Touch 10 monitor is an excellent choice for those looking to enjoy an enhanced touch computing experience without having to upgrade their entire PC.

LG ANNOUNCES THIRD-QUARTER 2012 FINANCIAL RESULTS

Company Reports Third Consecutive Quarter of Solid Net Income

SEOUL, Oct. 24, 2012 –- LG Electronics (LG) today reported a solid third-quarter performance with the third consecutive quarter of positive net income and all four companies recording strong operating profits. Better-than-expected performance in the mobile and home appliance businesses helped offset a slight decline in overall year-over-year sales for the third quarter.

Third-quarter net profit of KRW 157 billion (USD 138.57 million) with operating profit recording KRW 221 billion (USD 195.06 million) showed significant improvements from the loss in the same period last year. Third-quarter revenues fell 4 percent year-over-year to KRW 12.38 trillion (USD 10.93 billion) due to the continuing decline of feature phone sales and overall weak demand.

LG Home Entertainment Company third-quarter 2012 sales of KRW 5.49 trillion (USD 4.84 billion) were led by an increase in LCD TV sales, offsetting sluggish global demand. Percentage sales attributed to 3D TVs and LED TVs increased quarter-on-quarter with unit sales growing in most regions. IT products led by IPS monitors and monitor TVs also increased from the previous quarter. Operating profit of KRW 89 billion (USD 78.55 million) was unchanged from third quarter 2011. In the fourth quarter, the company plans to increase sales of LCD TVs by expanding marketing of CINEMA 3D Smart TVs and enhancing its premium brand positioning with the new Ultra HD TV.

LG Mobile Communications Company improved significantly in the 2012 third quarter, recording operating profit of KRW 22 billion (USD 19.42 million) due in large part to healthy sales of LTE smartphones in Korea, Japan and the United States. In addition, Optimus L-Series continued to expand into 3G markets, contributing to the sales increase. Revenues increased by 5 percent quarter-to-quarter to KRW 2.45 trillion (USD 2.16 billion) as shipments exceeded 14 million units, an increase of 9 percent from the previous quarter. The company expects to further increase its shipments and revenue in the fourth quarter with the global launch of the Optimus G superphone and sales of Optimus Vu: 2 in Korea.

LG Home Appliance Company reported improved sales and operating profit from the same quarter last year. Revenue increased 6.4 percent year-over-year to KRW 2.87 trillion (USD 2.53 billion) and operating profit of KRW 129 billion (USD 113.86 million) reflected strong sales in the United States as well as emerging markets. With global appliance demand stagnant, the fourth quarter will be challenging but additional marketing promotions and new model launches should help offset the situation.

LG Air Conditioning and Energy Solution Company posted a 3 percent year-over-year sales decline to KRW 974 billion (USD 859.66 million) while profitability increased slightly from the same period the previous year. The company expects worldwide demand to remain sluggish but the trend toward more energy efficient products should help drive demand in its commercial air conditioning systems business.

LG Electronics’ unaudited quarterly earnings results are based on IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) for the three-month period ending September 30, 2012. Amounts in Korean Won (KRW) are translated into U.S. Dollars (USD) at the average rate of the three-month period in each corresponding quarter: KRW 1,133 per USD (2012 3Q) and KRW 1,082 per USD (2011 3Q).

SEOUL, Oct. 24, 2012 — LG Electronics’ HOM-BOT SQUARE robotic vacuum cleaner made its global debut in Place Beaubourg, Paris, where it demonstrated to an international audience what the next generation of robotic cleaning technology would bring.

With sharp right-angles being found in practically every building in the world, LG engineers based the new HOM-BOT on a square, different from the circular design of most robot cleaners. The cleaner’s unique square design, hi-tech sensors and newly improved brushes (1.5cm longer than those in the previous model) are collectively called Corner Master and enable HOM-BOT SQUARE to more effectively reach areas that other cleaners simply ignore.
Corner-detecting sensors supply the cleaner with spatial information, telling it when the edge of the room has been reached, when to turn and when to stop. Sensitive Dual Eye 2.0™ camera sensors scan the floor, sampling multiple images per second and then analyze the information to generate an accurate map of the space -– even with the lights off. Onboard ultrasonic and infrared sensors allow the HOM-BOT SQUARE to detect and easily avoid obstacles in its path.
LG’s HOM-BOT SQUARE also features Turbo Mode, which allows the user to manually set cleaning functions to the specific requirements of their flooring. And Smart Turbo Mode enables the cleaner to detect the type of flooring and change its own settings automatically.
Visitors to LG’s HOM-BOT SQUARE launch event in France were given the opportunity to play a live version of LG’s dust-killing internet game. Participants used a remote to navigate the vacuum cleaner around a course and vacuum up simulated dust characters. BARCELONA, Oct. 17, 2012 -– LG Electronics (LG) today unveiled its new T-Series zero client in Barcelona at Citrix Synergy™, a global conference focusing on cloud computing, virtualization and networking. LG Cloud T-Series is the company’s next-generation zero client available as either a monitor (CAT42K) or a standalone box (CBT42) to connect to an existing screen. Running independently, both versions employ the Citrix HDX technology and a next-generation Texas Instruments (TI) system on a chip (SoC) offering high performance with greater security through zero client.

“With the LG Cloud T-Series, we’re expanding our reach into the zero client market while widening its range of VDI offerings,” said J.J. LG Cloud T-Series: Monitor Type
The monitor type T-Series (CAT42K) extends LG’s rapidly expanding range of zero client computing devices. Citrix HDX technology ensures a high-definition user experience of virtual desktops over any network while the marriage of TI’s DM8148 1GHz SoC with Citrix HDX technology enables the T-series to serve as a high-performance zero client, boosting high picture quality. Additionally, Cisco’s UPoE together reduces the maintenance workload for IT managers and overall operational costs through fewer hardware purchases and reduced power consumption.

Aside from the fundamental design, the T-Series monitor type includes a Full HD IPS display. Compared to conventional Twisted Nematic (TN) panels, IPS boosts color consistency for more lifelike colors, and offers an impressively wide viewing angle (178 degrees). When combined with Citrix HDX technology embedded in the ultrafast TI SoC, the IPS monitor yields advanced graphics performance and image quality that is comfortable to the eyes, reducing stress and increasing focus.

The external design of the monitor consists of a matte black finish on the frame and a slim height, swivel and tilt adjustment for great ergonomics while at work. The T-Series monitor type will be available in two sizes, 23-inches (16:9 aspect ratio) and 19-inches (16:10 aspect ratio).

LG Cloud T-Series: Box Type
Independent from any monitor, the box type T-Series (CBT42) includes Citrix HDX technology and the next generation TI SoC that will offer similar high-end graphics performance for any connected monitor. Additionally, the T-Series box type can stand vertically with a cradle or it can attach to the backside of a monitor for increased space efficiency. This is an affordable alternative to the T-series monitor type; advantageous for many enterprises and even SMEs that have already invested in monitors.

The LG Cloud T-Series offers six USB ports and a DVI port for a clone display. The six USB 2.0 ports enable accessories such as keyboards, mice, printers, scanners, card readers and cameras to attach to the T-Series zero client for enhanced functionality.

DUBAI, Oct. 10, 2012 -– Donovan and Hayley van Rooyen from the Republic of South Africa impressed the judges in the cook-off in Dubai to take the top prize in the fifth annual LG Home Chef Championship (LG-HCC). The husband and wife team won over the judges with their delicious dish of lamb potjie with rice, apricots and toasted almonds. The culinary concoction, which the van Rooyens refined over a period of five years, combines the van Rooyen’s proud South African heritage with distinctly modern flavors.

The LG Master Home Chef Prize included round trip tickets and five nights accommodation in Paris, two LG smartphones and classes at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu.

 

The Iranian team of Zahra Nasri Majd and Mohammad Javad Firouz Jani were awarded the World Association of Chef Societies (WACS) Prize for their stuffed lamb fillet, while the Le Cordon Bleu Prize went to Sheelu Tharian from the United Arab Emirates for her grilled chicken with kuboos chips. Both runner-up prizes included round trip tickets to Paris, three nights’ accommodation and lessons at Le Cordon Bleu.

SEOUL, Oct. 11, 2012 –- LG Electronics (LG) today announced the latest models in its Pro:Centric® Smart Hotel TV series designed for the hospitality industry. Pro:Centric is LG’s solution for hoteliers that allows them to easily customize the in-room experience, providing a convenient way to interface with interactive program guides and internet data feeds and connects customers to hotel services in and outside the guest rooms.
LG’s newest LT770H and LT760H series of Pro:Centric Smart Hotel TVs provide a customizable user interface (UI) for a tailor-made in-room experience, preloaded Smart TV applications, a suite of connectivity options that give guests convenient access to personal content, IP over Coax convenience, and an integrated set-top box to help reduce operating costs.

Customizable UIs and Multiple Connectivity Options
The LG Smart Hotel TV series employ the Pro:Centric applications platform, delivering support for HTML5 via an WebKit interface, Java and Flash, so system integrators, program providers and property owners can develop and provide a unique interface to guests. Hotels can customize the UI to include branded information as well as practical features such as remote check-out and room service.
In addition to the customizable UI, guests will have a suite of connectivity options available at their fingertips with the LG Pro:Centric Smart Hotel TVs. Typical connections through USB ports and built-in Wi-Fi are available in addition to smarter connectivity through SmartShare -– a portal to transmit content via technologies such as Intel Wireless Display (WiDi), which allows content to be streamed from compatible devices.
Pre-loaded Apps and History Auto-Delete
The LT760H series initially (and ultimately also the LT770H series) will include preloaded apps and a handy function to help ensure the privacy of each guest. The apps themselves were specifically chosen to enable users to benefit from easy access to commonly used social networking sites (SNS) and information resources. At the same time, History Auto-Delete ensures that guests vacating a room have their search history removed via a reboot to protect their privacy.
Outstanding Savings for Hotel Operators
While offering superb entertainment functions, both of LG’s Pro:Centric Smart Hotel TV series provide outstanding savings by reducing installation and management costs. The IP-over-coax functionality, included in the 760H models eliminates the need for investment in additional infrastructure to support Ethernet, while the built-in set-top box eliminates additional hardware expenses, reducing initial setup costs and long-term maintenance fees. Finally, operational costs are minimized as members of hotel staff are able to control the entire infrastructure via a central remote management system.
Hospitality Solutions
“LG has long established itself as a leader in the TV industry,” said Kwon. The company also has leveraged its technological know-how to build a healthy relationship with the hospitality industry, making LG the number one brand in the U.S. lodging and hospitality market. “Looking to the future, LG promises hotel guests an even more connected and engaging in-room experience with a wealth of content and connectivity options based on customizable platforms,” Kwon added.
The LT760H will be introduced this week in Germany and the U.K. followed by additional markets in Europe, CIS, Asia, Middle East and Africa. The LG770H, in 32-, 37-, 42- and 47-inch class sizes, will be available initially in the United States starting in the fourth quarter.

WHIRLPOOL CORPORATION, LG ELECTRONICS SETTLE REFRIGERATOR PATENT DISPUTES

BENTON HARBOR, Mich., USA, and SEOUL, Korea, Sep. 28, 2012 –- LG Electronics, Inc. and Whirlpool Corporation have agreed to settle their respective patent infringement disputes related to refrigerators. This agreement, which concludes years of patent litigation between LG and Whirlpool, will result in the dismissal of three pending patent infringement lawsuits involving several LG and Whirlpool patents in the U.S. District Courts in Delaware and New Jersey. All other terms of the settlement are confidential.

This feature-packed new model is the worthy successor to the LG TONE (HBS-700) which was a top-seller for popular online retailers such as Amazon.com. New Form of Cross-Tasking and Engaging UX
With reliable and speedy performance, LG’s Optimus G doesn’t solely enable multi-tasking but “cross-tasking” of activities without limitations. If multi-tasking applies to running various applications at the same time, cross-tasking applies to complex tasks that can be completed simultaneously without having to compromise other tasks. Some new UX features that will be included into the Optimus G to showcase its cross-tasking and engaging capabilities are:

 

• QSlide Function shows two different screens simultaneously on one display. As it doesn’t just show a part of the screen but the entire screen of both functions, the user can complete two tasks concurrently -– such as sending a text message or searching the web while watching a video;
• Live Zooming enhances the video-watching experience as users can zoom in up to five times while the video is being streamed for a close-up of one’s child while watching a recorded video from a school recital;
• Dual Screen Dual Play not only allows mirroring between the smartphone and a TV, it also has the ability to display different content on each screen wirelessly. For example, a slide presentation can be displayed on the TV while the Optimus G shows the accompanying speaking notes;
• QuickMemo allows users to write, draw, or jot a memo with their finger directly on the captured screen for sharing instantly with others as an attachment or a URL. The QuickMemo can also be used as an overlay feature – like jotting down a number using the QuickMemo and directly dialing the number while the number is on the top layer;
• Screen Zooming allows for the zooming in and out of lists in music player, email, text messages and photo gallery. It also offers the ability to change the font size and screen layout;
• Application Link launches preset applications (email, calendar, weather, etc.)  when the alarm is turned off -– making preparation time in the morning go a little faster with all the information on your screen;
• Icon Personalizer allows users the ability to customize icons by editing size and adding images so the most frequently used apps can be most easily accessible.

LG SMARTPHONE DESIGNER: “LG CHOCOLATE, PRADA DNA LIVES ON IN OPTIMUS G”

“Our top priority was to carry over LG’s unique design DNA and heritage to Optimus G,” says the phone’s Chief Designer Sera Park. “Optimus G has many of the elements that we incorporated in the past in phones such as Chocolate, Prada and L-Series. For example, the front face of Optimus G is completely black with lines that are nearly invisible when the phone is off, an effect similar to the original LG Prada.”

The Crystal Reflection finish used for the first time on the back of LG’s new Optimus G smartphone was developed and patented over a period of 15 months. Crystal Reflection gives the Optimus G’s back cover the ability to display different patterns depending on the viewing angle and lighting. The intricate polarized 3D pattern, which sparkles just under the surface, looks almost jewel-like. Laser cutting adds to the clean finish, as do the metallic highlights.

BERLIN, Aug. 30, 2012 -– LG Electronics will showcase a medley of industry-leading consumer electronics under the banner “ABOVE AND BEYOND” at this year’s IFA show in Berlin. At the center of it all is the world’s largest and slimmest 55-inch OLED TV, designed to deliver the ultimate viewing experience. LG’s booth will also showcase the latest home entertainment products including world’s first 84-inch UD (Ultra Definition) 3D TV, CINEMA 3D Smart TV, IPS (In-Plane Switching) monitors, and a huge range of audio and video products packed with market-leading CINEMA 3D technology and expanded Smart ecosystem with a vast of apps and premium 3D content.

OLED TV
The OLED TV zone will invite visitors to experience the most advanced display on the market, LG’s world’s largest and slimmest 55-inch OLED TV, which delivers truly uncompromising picture quality thanks to its 4 Color Pixel and infinite contrast from self-lighting pixels. The 4 Color Pixel design adds a white sub-pixel to the three primaries (WRGB), providing realistic colors from any viewing angle. In addition, the Color Refiner enhances color precision and consistency, hallmarks of LG’s OLED technology. Its 4mm-Paper Slim panel and use of strong Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) give the OLED TV a sleek, minimal exterior and further help deliver a truly immersive ultimate viewing experience.

UD 3D TV

LG’s UD 3D TV offers amazingly sharp picture quality coupled with an enormous screen that boasts 8 million pixels and four times the resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels) of existing Full HD TV panels, thanks to LG’s advanced Triple XD Engine and the Resolution Upscaler Plus. The 2.2 Speaker System offers rich and deep sound, providing additional depth that complements the on-screen action. The TV is equipped with Smart TV features, giving viewers the ability to explore LG’s Smart TV ecosystem that includes a vast amount of apps and a growing range of content.

CINEMA 3D Smart TV
Visitors will get the opportunity to get up close and personal with the full lineup of CINEMA 3D Smart TVs, which have received positive reviews from awards and a number of leading IT and consumer magazines from all over the world. Earlier in August, LG’s CINEMA 3D Smart TV (Model 55LM960V) won the European Smart TV Award at EISA 2012 Awards, one of the most coveted awards by Smart TV makers. More accolades include a 5-star Editor’s Choice Award from CNET, a Best Buy Award from Which?, a Test Winner Award from HiFi Test and Audio Video Foto-Bild, alongside many more.

The CINEMA 3D Smart TV zone will also introduce visitors to how LG managed to secure leadership in the market and where the latest 3D technology stands. Thanks to LG’s Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) CINEMA 3D technology, LG CINEMA 3D Smart TV provides a noticeably comfortable 3D experience with flicker-free images and battery-free 3D glasses. Among the CINEMA 3D Smart TV lineup, the high-end LM960V 55-inch CINEMA 3D Smart TV will impress visitors with its the most advanced and user-focused 3D features, including 3D Depth Control which users can customize the 3D experience and 3D Sound Zooming which perfectly matches the visual action. The CINEMA SCREEN Design offers the most immersive 3D viewing experience by reducing the bezel to just 1mm.

Smart TV Features
Focusing on its impressive Smart TV features, LG will demonstrate its leadership in connected TVs at its Smart TV zone. LG’s highly advanced yet enticingly simple Smart TV user interface and wealth of smart features, in particular Magic Remote and Smart Share Plus, contributing to LG’s dynamic Smart TV environment.

The Magic Remote offers a convenient means to access TV content and gives four different control options: point, wheel, voice recognition, and pattern gesture control. Additionally, Smart Share Plus offers a range of connectivity options. For example, devices on the same home Wi-Fi network can connect wirelessly to an LG CINEMA 3D Smart TV. If the external device features Intel’s Wireless Display technology (WiDi), users do not even need a cable.

Visitors can also experience LG’s Google TV at this year’s IFA. LG’s in-house engineers developed LG’s own L9 dual-core processor that powers the Google TV delivering superior performance and a great Smart TV experience. The Google TV’s Magic Remote QWERTY and Home Dashboard designed specifically for Google TV makes this smart TV especially easy-to-use and Google search, Google Play Store, Chrome browser and YouTube work as seamlessly as they do on PCs and smartphones.

IPS Monitors and PCs
LG will highlight a wide range of IPS monitors at IFA 2012 that are perfect for both work and play. Leading the lineup will be LG’s EA93 and EA83 IPS monitors that are designed for graphics-intensive applications and multitasking. The EA93 boasts a 21:9 cinematic screen, perfect for recreating a true entertainment experience at home. The EA83 includes a Wide Quad High Definition (WQHD) display with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels matched with one of the widest color spectrums available for the discerning professional. The IPS technology in the EA93 and EA83 monitors are able to produce more lifelike images at practically any viewing angle, while reducing eye fatigue. What’s more, LG will showcase the 27-inch TM2792 Personal Smart TV with CINEMA 3D technology and the Z350 Ultrabook boasting a 9-second boot time.

Audio, Video Products and Smart Accessories
LG will demonstrate its 3D and smart capabilities by showcasing its most complete 3D Home Theater System, the BH9520TW, which features a 360-degree reflector and multidirectional 3D speaker set. Together these produce a CINEMA 3D Sound that truly enhances the 3D home entertainment experience. The 9.1 3D Speakers are capable of delivering an auditory experience similar to a state-of-the art movie theater. The BH9520TW is also equipped with smart features including LG Apps, powerful VOD service, and Wi-Fi Direct, which allows users to easily share content between digital devices.

The ND8520, LG’s latest docking speaker for iPod, iPhone, or iPad, delivers a unique design along with excellent sound. It is compatible with Airplay, enabling users to get

the most out of their iTunes library. Apple’s Airplay enables the user to share their extensive music collection throughout the home via Wi-Fi. Its compact size belies its impressive capabilities: the diminutive unit features a powerful built-in subwoofer, ensuring deep, crisp reproduction of even the deepest notes.

3D Video Wall
Visitors will be introduced to LG’s world’s first 3D Video Wall that features FPR 3D, the same flicker-free technology found in LG CINEMA 3D Smart TVs. The WV70MD features the world’s narrowest bezel at just 5.3mm. With such a slim bezel, multiple WV70MD displays can be easily combined to provide a large single-screen display. The 3D Video Wall offers crystal-clear images without distortion or color inconsistencies, thanks to the IPS panels which also guarantee a wide viewing angle, perfect for accommodating a large group of people.

Last but not least, LG will also be unveiling a new version of its revolutionary Mouse Scanner, which takes all the pain out of document scanning.
