LG P220 Offers Premium Viewing Experience, Easy Mobility, Uncompromising Performance
SEOUL, Aug. 10, 2011 –- LG Electronics (LG) today introduced the LG P220, a new premium notebook offering a superb viewing experience in a sleek, compact, lightweight body. With a three-sided Real Slim Bezel and advanced IPS (in-plane switching) display allowing for vibrant images at any angle, the LG P220 delivers brilliant, 12.5-inch widescreen viewing in a package the size of an 11.6-inch notebook.
“Notebook design has hit a crossroad where users want bigger screens but aren’t willing to sacrifice portability or keyboard comfort,” said J.J. Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of LG Electronics PC Business Unit. “Other 12-inch notebooks just haven’t achieved such an effective balance between compact body and wide screen. Through its narrow bezel and a wider, higher quality viewing angles, the LG P220 achieves new levels of notebook satisfaction, by offering wide screen viewing on a compact device without any sacrifices in performance and mobility”
Incomparable SuperView with Real Slim Bezel and Advanced IPS Display
With SuperView, LG’s premium display package, the LG P220 sets new standards in displays with a viewing experience unrivalled on any 12-inch class notebook. The enhanced Real Slim Bezel on the left, right and top sides of the screen allows the LG P220 to showcase a 12.5-inch screen in 11.6-inch compact body.
The LG P220’s IPS display ensures a wider viewing angle so users can enjoy brilliant, sharp images regardless of the angle of view. The LG P220’s picture quality remains consistently excellent with no color distortion from any angle within a 178 degree viewing arc. Compared with competing models in the same class, LG’s IPS display increases color shift angles by up to 60 percent so multiple users can watch the screen together without any loss in image quality.
Minimalist Form Factor, Uncompromising Mobility
Inspired by the design heritage of its predecessor, the iF Design Award-winning LG P210, the LG P220 blends minimalist design with a clean and modern look. The LG P220’s sleek and neat exterior comes in three enticing colors – White Pearl, Pink Pearl, and Blue Pearl – letting owners add a personal touch to this stylish unit.
With a body as light as conventional 10-inch netbooks but 30 percent slimmer, the LG P220 is the perfect companion for the working professional who also enjoys a bit of multimedia on the side. Tipping the scales at just 1.3kg with depth of 20.9mm, the LG P220 is as portable as any 12-inch notebook on the market today.
Mighty Performance that Lasts
Thanks to its second-generation Intel® Core™ i5 processor, users can work or play 30 percent faster and with graphics that are three times sharper than on notebooks equipped with the previous generation Intel® CoreTM i5 processor. Users can wirelessly share videos, photos, and music with other DLNA-enabled devices through built-in content sharing software. What’s more, optimized power handling allows for the viewing of three full-length movies consecutively on one charge.
The LG P220 notebook will be available in Korea starting this month followed by European markets soon after.

Vaccination Program Aims to Cut Vicious Circle of Poverty and Disease in Ethiopia
SEOUL, Jul. 8 .2011 –- LG Electronics (LG) has joined with the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) and the Armauer Hansen Research Institute and the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia to implement a mass vaccination program for children in Ethiopia. LG and the IVI jointly launched the program on July 5 in Ethiopia’s capital city of Addis Ababa.
Aiming to help break the cycle of poverty and disease that affects many children in Ethiopia, LG is coordinating a fundraising campaign inside the company via social media. LG has also pledged to donate 1,000 Korean Won for every comment left on LG’s social media sites, including its blog, Facebook and Twitter pages.
“This program is part of a larger campaign that strives to deliver on our message of ‘Hope for Life is Good,’” said Won-woo Na, President of LG’s Kenya subsidiary. “We want to instill hope and aspiration that by beating preventable diseases, we can end the cycle of poverty and disease and give children in Ethiopia the opportunities they so rightly deserve.”
Since last year, LG has been focusing all of its efforts in Ethiopia by working with the IVI, a Korea-based international organization devoted to developing new vaccines for developing countries. The IVI has been providing technical support to the Ethiopian government in order to strengthen the healthcare system and to better address the wide-ranging logistical and infrastructure requirements needed to successfully implement a large-scale vaccination program in Ethiopia. The program’s aim is to dramatically reduce the number of children in Africa – as many as 120,000 a year according to the WHO – who die every year due to acute watery diarrhea (AWD), mainly from drinking contaminated water. Immunizing children against AWD is among the most effective ways to prevent needless deaths and suffering. LG expects to immunize 20,000 Ethio-pian children from 2012 to 2013.

LG JOINS EXPANDING PORTABLE GAMING MARKET WITH OPTIMUS 3D AND HIGH QUALITY GAMES FROM GAMELOFT
Stereoscopic 3D Games on High-End Smartphone Usher in a New Era of Handheld Entertainment
SEOUL, July 7, 2011 – LG Electronics (LG) announced its entry into the expanding handheld gaming market with the launch of the LG Optimus 3D in Korea and the introduction of 17 Stereoscopic 3D (S-3D) games from leading mobile video game developer Gameloft.
“Today’s smartphones have the horsepower to compete with the best portable gaming devices and LG Optimus 3D is our proof,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “We think 3D is the natural next step in portable entertainment and LG is eager to throw its hat in the ring with the Optimus 3D and Gameloft’s ‘must-be-seen-to-be-believed’ titles.”
Full versions of three Gameloft titles will come pre-installed on new Optimus 3D smartphones with the remaining S-3D games available for download at significantly discounted prices for LG Optimus 3D owners. The three included S-3D games are Asphalt 6: Adrenaline, N.O.V.A. — Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance and Let’s Golf! 2. The games received wide acclaim in their original versions and were specifically chosen for the realism and immersive game play they would provide when digitally re-mastered into S-3D.
“The most recent data shows iOS and Android devices are capturing a growing part of the portable gaming market by revenue,” said Michel Guillemot, President of Gameloft. “With the next generation of smartphones offering 3D capabilities, the bar has been raised to a new height. On the Optimus 3D, we’re able to offer our most popular titles to an entirely new audience at very competitive price points.”
Fourteen additional Gameloft S-3D games will be available for download via the 3D Games icon on the LG Optimus 3D. Titles such as: Assassin’s Creed: Altaïr’s Chronicles, James Cameron’s Avatar, Ultimate Spider Man: Total Mayhem, GT Racing: Motor Academy, Shrek Kart, Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus, Real Football 2011, Star Battalion, N.O.V.A. 2 — Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance, Dungeon Hunter 2, Fishing Kings, BackStab, Eternal Legacy and Shadow Guardian will be offered to Optimus 3D owners at half price for the first three months. Archer Craft, an LG produced S-3D game, will also be available as a free download.
Furthermore, special software available only on Optimus 3D allows for real-time conversion of 2D photo and video content into 3D. What’s more, LG is taking content creation to a new level with a free software that can convert 2D games to 3D, available for download to all Optimus 3D owners in the third quarter.
“The convergence of communication, the internet and entertainment all on one device was what made smartphones so popular so quickly,” added LG’s Dr. Park. “3D on smartphones is what color was to television – it introduces an entirely new level of viewing enjoyment. Playing a Gameloft 3D title on an LG Optimus 3D is simply taking that enjoyment and multiplying it by a factor of ten. It’s an experience that’s guaranteed to put a smile on anyone’s face.”
The LG Optimus 3D, the world’s first smartphone with full 3D and Tri-Dual (dual-core, dual-channel, dual-memory) architecture, was designed for maximum performance and efficiency, ideal for the high processing power required for gaming and viewing videos. The LG Optimus 3D is currently being introduced in over 60 markets around the world. The preloaded games will be available from launch, with further downloadable games rolling out over the coming months through a dedicated 3D Games icon.

DM50D Includes All the Advantages of LG’s Industry-Changing 3D TVs in your Room
Seoul, Jun. 26, 2011 — LG Electronics’ (LG) 47LW5500-ZE and 47LW550T-ZE CINEMA 3D TVs have become the first TVs in Europe to receive the Carbon Reduction Label, a low carbon footprint labelling scheme managed by the Carbon Trust, a nonprofit company set up in 2001 with the support of the UK Government.
“This certification marks an important step forward for us in terms of improving our environmental brand image in Europe,” said Il-geun Kwon, head of LG’s LCD TV R&D Lab. “Europe is the world’s largest TV market so it is important that LG be able to communicate to its European consumers our commitment to developing world-class products using the most responsible materials and manufacturing processes.”
The Carbon Reduction Label reflects LG’s pledge to reduce greenhouse gases. It also demonstrates the progress and commitment the Korean company made to reduce the amount of carbon associated with the entire lifespan of its products, from production to distribution to use. Equally important, the award reflects the changing priorities of LG’s customers — both in Europe and elsewhere — to put greater emphasis on environmentally-responsible manufacturing.
With climate change and the environment playing a more important role in consumers’purchasing decisions, eco-friendly products have a clear competitive advantage. LG is focusing heavily on reducing the power consumption of its TVs and is also evaluating its supply and distribution chains and the way the company buys components. LG will continue to encourage contractors to utilize “low-coal” goods and more energy efficient manufacturing processes.
Through innovations such as Edge LED and the Local Dimming System, the 47LW5500-ZE and 47LW550T-ZE use more than 30 percent less energy compared to conventional models in the same class. And with Smart Energy Saving, LG’s own energy reduction technology, the LCD TVs further reduce power consumption by up to 70 percent. This translates into a reduction of 795kg of carbon dioxide emissions over the average lifespan of a TV in Europe (7.2 years). This is the equivalent of 250 liters of diesel fuel.
Thanks to their slim designs, LG’s certified CINEMA 3D TVs also use 37 percent less packing volume than other similar models. This reduction further helps reduce LG’s carbon footprint, particularly in terms of physical distribution costs per unit.
