SEOUL, Sep. 24, 2020 — LG Electronics (LG) is expanding its 2020 K series lineup to offer premium design with upgraded features and functionality at price points everyone can appreciate. The new LG K series models – LG K62, LG K52, and LG K42 – will be available starting next month in Europe followed by key markets in Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.

All three new K series models represent exceptional value and boast stylish designs that are sure to appeal to both LG fans and new users alike. The rear of the K42 sports a unique wave pattern that appears to change colors while a UV coating adds to the device’s premium aesthetic and protects against marks and scratches. The modern matte finish on both LG K62 and LG K52 creates a unique optical pattern that is fingerprint-resistant and all three phones come in a range of compelling colors that complement their stylish designs.

These new K series devices offer upgraded displays that elevate the entire user experience with each model featuring a 6.6-inch HD+ FullVision display in 20:9 aspect ratio. The front camera peeks out through a minimal punch hole and the entire front of the phones is surrounded by slim, unobtrusive bezels. On the audio side, LG 3D Sound Engine adds a greater sense of immersion, delivering authentic, detailed sounds optimized for the content being played.

With four high-quality rear lenses (Standard, Ultra Wide, Depth and Macro) in addition to the front-facing camera, the new K series devices deliver a content creation experience on par with much more expensive smartphones. Both K62 and K52 feature 48MP main cameras that capture brighter and sharper photos and videos, with the K42 featuring a superb 13MP primary lens. The 28MP selfie camera of the K62 allows for the ability to take great looking selfies with artistic blurring effects while the macro lens on all three models can capture superbly detailed close-ups without zooming.

Unique camera features add to the creative possibilities offered by these new K series phones. Flash Jump Cut takes four pictures at preset intervals to create an amusing stop-motion effect and AI CAM recommends the optimal settings based on the subject matter that the camera sees. And with YouTube Live built into the camera’s interface, users can instantly share their lives with friends and followers any time.

The superior performance of LG’s latest K series models is built on solid, reliable fundamentals. A 4,000mAh battery provides long-lasting power for more time creating and consuming content on the go, while the build strength of LG’s smartphones ensures the durability needed for daily use, meeting the strict U.S. military’s MIL-STD-810G standards. 1

“Attractive in both design and price, these new K series models represent exceptional value for the performance,” said Johan Chung, executive vice president of overseas sales and marketing at LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “With these newest K series devices sporting quad-camera arrays, immersive large-screen displays and cutting-edge features, even more consumers around the world will be able to enjoy the premium LG user experience.”

[Executive Corner] Our Commitment to “Life’s Good From Home”

LG’s president & CTO Dr. I.P. Park introduces LG Electronics’ Life’s Good from Home vision for the future in hologram form at IFA 2020

A few weeks ago, I had the honor of representing LG Electronics at IFA 2020 in Germany. What was different this time was that it was my hologram on the stage in Berlin.

Our virtual participation at a major industry event is only one of many firsts that the pandemic has forced upon us. In just about every domain of our lives, from nationwide lockdown and social distancing to an unprecedented scale of remote working and learning, we’re having to try new things, learn new ways of living. Now it is our job to turn these changes into lasting innovations for a better life because in this time of crisis, our mission as a lifestyle innovator resonates louder than ever before.

A man on a street wearing LG PuriCare wearable Air Purifier

First and foremost, LG is committed, more than ever, to providing products and services which help create a perfect nest of safety, both at home and beyond. The COVID19 has created an especially heightened awareness of personal and environmental safety that we believe will stay with us for long after the pandemic. We’ve been able to respond to this urgent need by drawing on LG’s wealth of innovative technology and expertise:

  • As its name suggests, LG PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier adapts LG’s decades of experience in market-leading air purifiers to this wearable portable air purifier with H13 HEPA filters and respiratory sensors.
  • Our optics research team worked tirelessly to develop a smart thermal camera which is capable of temperature detection and facial recognition, both simultaneously and autonomously, so as to eliminate the need for costly and risky staffing.
  • There’s also been a tremendous amount of interest in LG Styler, our wardrobe management product, which utilizes steam technology to reduce 99.9 percent of house dust mite allergens as well as germs and bacteria typically found on clothing.

Image of LG’s CLOi robots inside the makeshift Cloi’s Table restaurant at CES 2020

  • And as we’re all trying to keep physical interaction to an absolute minimum these days, fleets of LG CLOi robots have been deployed throughout South Korea to do all sorts of tasks, from supporting medical staff at hospitals to cooking and serving delicious meals at restaurants.

These are all examples of LG once again leading the way in delivering that all-important peace of mind for our customers.

A father and son watch a movie on LG’s OLED TV which provides a true cinematic experience

Entertainment is another domain in which LG has much experience. With theaters and theme parks shut down during this pandemic there’s been greater demand on home entertainment as consumers have sought ways to pass the time. LG’s OLED TV continues to lead the industry for providing the perfect picture for a wide variety of content. From true cinematic experience with Dolby Vision IQ and UHD Alliance’s Filmmaker Mode to picture-perfect NVIDIA G-SYNC® Compatible gaming, LG OLED TV is true to every detail.

The left image shows an LG representative explaining how to use ThinQ Fit to shop for clothes, whereas the second image displays LG’s smart refrigerator in a modern kitchen setting with its front display turned on

We’re also doubling down on our efforts to make our living spaces much smarter, much more multifunctional. This drive for intelligent versatility is accelerated during social distancing as most of us are forced to do more from home. ThinQ Fit, for example, can allow us to shop for clothes whenever and wherever we are. Soon to be available for mobiles, this virtual fitting solution will radically transform how millions of consumers shop for clothes.

Improved connectivity and the power of AI are also giving us healthier options, as virtual appointments and remote clinic solutions replace the need for hospital queues. Our recent pilot project using AI to monitor patients with chronic conditions is just one of the examples where LG is innovating healthcare with digital transformation. In the home, smart kitchen appliances are helping us eat healthier. Intelligent refrigerators will soon be able to identify the food inside and advise us on the best recipes based on our nutritional needs. And by connecting the refrigerator to the oven and the dishwasher, the entire process of preparing the meal and cleaning up afterwards because a whole lot easier because a fresh and healthy diet shouldn’t have to be a chore.

So these are just some of the ways LG is leading the way in this new environment to provide a safe, entertaining and intelligent sanctuary and shape the way we live and work. Most crucially, all these amazing innovations converge on one central idea, our vision for the future – LG ThinQ. ThinQ represents our constantly evolving process of digital transformation, our ceaseless endeavor to turn all our devices and appliances into connected platforms where we can create new services and solutions as well as new business models.

The new version of ThinQ app, for example, is an integrated platform for all our products and services. Through this app, devices can now work together to achieve desired conditions much more efficiently, tailored to user’s personal profile. Also connecting LG’s enterprise solutions to this digital platform will open up new possibilities for our relationship with our customers, as we have demonstrated with the phenomenal success of Proactive Customer Care service.

The newly completed LG ThinQ Home in Pangyo, South Korea, is another example of this kind of platform approach. The real brick-and-mortar four-story house will serve as a testbed for LG’s innovations in a real-life setting, centered around the state-of-the-art home solution which connects all the digital touchpoints around the house into an intelligent system for a truly smart home.

So, for all the hardships we’ve been through this year, there is no doubt that we are also presented with an unprecedented opportunity for change. But lasting change is never a given. We will have to make it happen by providing our customers with innovative alternatives which are both intuitive and affordable. Which is why “Life’s Good from Home,” our theme for IFA 2020, is both a celebration of our achievements so far as well as a bold promise for the future.

THREE REASONS YOU NEED A SPECIALTY (KIMCHI) REFRIGERATOR IN YOUR LIFE

A photo collage of all the different kinds of kimchi – a Korean traditional side dish made from salted, fermented vegetables

According to the United Nations, about 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted each year globally, equivalent to one third of all the food produced for human consumption. The amount of food wasted is more than enough food to feed all the hungry people in the world, more than 800 million mouths! 1

It is a sad fact that so much food is wasted rather than enjoyed due to the limitations of getting food from where it is to where it needs to be. But individuals can do their part to reduce the amount of food that goes bad. In fact, there is a technology that can help you be a part of the solution and not part of the problem.

Introducing the specialty refrigerator, more familiarly called a “kimchi” refrigerator in Korea, its country of origin.

Some may scoff at the idea of an appliance dedicated to just one type of food but to many Koreans, a kimchi refrigerator is no different than a bread maker, toaster or rice cooker.

Just bigger.

A front view of LG’s kimchi refrigerator in silver with its top doors opened wide to showcase its interior compartments

To understand the popularity of a specialty refrigerator originally designed for kimchi requires an understanding of kimchi in Korean’s culture. Kimchi, like sauerkraut and french fries, is a side dish and not meant to be eaten without a main rice or noodle dish. Most non-Koreans may not be aware that there are many different kinds of kimchi. In fact, kimchi can be any fermented vegetable with seasoning and was a way for Koreans to enjoy vegetables year-round before the appearance of refrigerators. Kimchi goes back 3,000 years ago but the type that most people think of when they hear “kimchi” is made of cabbage and was popularized in the early 1600s, with the commercialization of peppers. Back then, kimchi was dipped in salt inside a pottery jar, then buried underground for more thorough fermentation.

When Koreans began to urbanize, there was nowhere to bury and store homemade kimchi for all-year consumption (traditional Koreans today still make kimchi just before winter when cabbage is freshest and most plentiful). Storing kimchi in the family refrigerator meant there was little space for anything else. Hence the need for a separate kimchi refrigerator.

A closer look inside one of the two lower compartments of LG’s kimchi refrigerator, which is storing four large boxes holding four kinds of kimchi

Here are three great reasons why everyone should consider an LG specialty refrigerator for their kitchen:

1. Preserved Foods Taste Better

Not everybody likes kimchi. But if you do, the compartments of the refrigerator feature the company’s exclusive Kimchi L mode, which is great for storing fermented foods but is also excellent at preserving the texture, taste and distinctive flavors of both dry- and wet-aged meat products such as salted pork, cured ham, prime beef and even a fillet.

While conventional refrigerators might be adequate for keeping kimchi edible for a few months, regular fridges were not designed with fermented foods in mind. Invoking Kimchi+ mode in LG’s specialty refrigerators increases the production of lactic acid bacteria (of which Leuconostoc 2 and the right amount of Lactobacillus are believed to be the key players in kimchi fermentation) by 57 times compared to normal storage mode. 3 This refrigerator can store cheese, pickles, yogurt and sauerkraut perfectly, separately in different compartments.

A concept image showing the LG kimchi refrigerator’s cooling circulating air around the whole appliance for fresher, longer-lasting food

2. Longer Freshness

Kimchi refrigerators aren’t just about kimchi anymore. In fact, sales of specialty kimchi refrigerators in Korea continue to increase every year even though more Koreans are buying kimchi from the supermarket, negating the need for year-long kimchi storage. This is because Korean families have discovered how good specialty refrigerators are for storing other foods longer than in a typical refrigerator without having to freeze them. Whether it’s vegetables, fruits, cheeses, eggs or bread, a specialty refrigerator does a better job keeping stuff fresher longer.

Front view of the top half of LG’s kimchi refrigerator in black with both doors open and arrows illustrating where its control system circulates cold air every 6 minutes through 20 air vents

Case in point, LG’s specialty refrigerator, is 32 percent more efficient than a conventional reciprocating compressor 4 due to LG Inverter Linear Compressor’s more precise temperature control. Specially designed Fresh Covers and Fresh Lock Covers seal in cool air, while thicker insulation further aids in minimizing temperature fluctuations. What’s more, LG’s Cooling Care supplies cold air every 6 minutes through 20 air vents located throughout the refrigerator to keep the internal temperature consistent and reduce fluctuation.

A high view of the LG kimchi refrigerator with all its doors opened and each of its expansive sections filled with diverse foods and drinks

3. Adjustable for Everyone

Each CustomChillTM Section in LG’s fridge can be individually controlled and comes with various temperature presets for user convenience. With this sort of flexibility, families can designate one section for mom and dad, another for the kids’ snacks, and keep the remaining compartments free for different types of foods. Separate compartments also mean you can keep fruits and vegetables separate to prevent premature riping due to the release of ethylene gas, which speeds up ripening. And each compartment features a deodorizing filter to minimize the mixing of food odors.

With LG’s ingenious specialty refrigerator, you can worry less about that expiration date and enjoy your meals more knowing that your food has been well taken care of in storage.

LG WING REPRESENTS A NEW DEFINITION OF USABILITY NEVER SEEN BEFORE IN A SMARTPHONE

Unique Smartphone Embodies LG’s Efforts to Explore the
Unknown and Introduce Compelling, New Mobile Experiences

(From left) Front view of LG WING in Swivel Mode in Aurora Gray, as well as the front and rear view of LG WING in Basic Mode in Aurora Gray and Illusion Sky.

SEOUL, Sep. 14, 2020 — LG Electronics (LG) unveiled its first Explorer Project device, LG WING, at an online launch event live streamed around the world from its Seoul headquarters. Embodying the Explorer Project’s aim to discover yet unexplored usability concepts in an effort to expand the mobile industry, LG WING boasts a unique form factor that presents consumers with new and compellingly different mobile experiences.

Hidden Second Screen Offers Next-level User Experience

LG WING is completely different from any other smartphone on the market. Users can switch seamlessly between Basic Mode and Swivel Mode any time to enjoy an expanded and truly differentiated user experience. In Swivel Mode, the entire front of the phone rotates clockwise 90 degrees, orienting the Main Screen in landscape mode to reveal a 3.9 inch Second Screen that unlocks new usability and new possibilities to explore – a single application can be expanded to both screens or two applications can be displayed simultaneously, one on each display.

Viewing video-sharing and streaming platforms in Swivel Mode allows users to interact with the Second Screen while content plays uninterrupted on the Main Screen. To take advantage of LG WING’s unique form factor, LG collaborated with industry-leading platform partners. When viewing YouTube or Tubi on the preinstalled NAVER Whale browser, the video plays on the Main Screen while the Second Screen displays comments or the search bar. LG’s partnerships with other streaming platforms such as Rave and Ficto means that LG WING owners can enjoy videos full screen while simultaneously interacting with other viewers via the Second Screen.

LG WING’s two displays and revolutionary form factor facilitate new ways to engage with certain apps and features, making it far easier to multitask. Users can watch their favorite movies in all their widescreen glory while searching for information about their favorite actors or discussing the movie via chat with friends. For extra convenience, the Multi App feature allows users to create shortcuts for pairs of apps they typically use together. Swivel Mode can also prove handy when driving, allowing users to follow map directions on the Main Screen reserving the Second Screen for calls, which on other phones would cover the map. Changing the orientation of LG WING creates all kinds of new possibilities for multitasking and enjoying content.

Immersive Viewing Experience Without Distractions

With more consumers watching content on their smartphones than ever before, LG is introducing various features in WING to improve the mobile viewing experience. The Main Screen of LG WING is a flawless 6.8-inch P-OLED FullVision display with 20.5:9 aspect ratio to deliver an exceptional viewing and gaming experience. Not only does the Second Screen expand the viewable real estate of the device, it also doubles as a grip when the Main Screen is in landscape mode. With Grip Lock activated, the Second Screen displays useful information such as time and date and ignores accidental touches.

In video platform apps optimized for its unique form factor, LG WING’s Second Screen acts as the Media Controller. When activated, a floating icon appears in the upper-right corner of the Second Screen, giving users the ability to change video and sound settings without having to pause the video or switch to another window. And to eliminate any potential visual distractions that might get in the way of viewer immersion, LG has implemented a 32MP Pop Up Camera that emerges from the body of the device when needed to preserve the device’s screen real estate.

World’s First Gimbal Feature in a Phone with Superb Video Recording

For users who usually record and share their daily lives using smartphones, LG equipped its groundbreaking handset with advanced camera features and technologies exclusive to the new form factor. LG WING boasts three rear cameras – a 64MP Ultra High Resolution OIS Wide, 12MP Ultra Wide Big Pixel and 13MP Wide. Enable Dual Recording in Swivel Mode by using the 32MP pop-up camera and one of the phone’s rear cameras simultaneously. The results can be saved together in a single file, or in two separate files with the aspect ratio set to either 1:1 or 16:9. What’s more, the Second Screen can be used as a dedicated editing palette while the video or photo is displayed on the Main Screen. LG WING also comes with LG Creator’s Kit, a collection of advanced imaging solutions including Timelapse Control, Voice Bokeh and ASMR Recording.

The Gimbal Motion Camera, the world’s first in a smartphone, turns the LG WING’s Second Screen into a convenient grip, providing the stability needed to capture clearer shots and smooth video footage in horizontal mode with one hand, normally difficult to accomplish with conventional bar-type smartphones. LG WING offers functions typically found only on a real gimbal, just as a joystick for controlling the camera angle, a lock to reduce shakes and blurring, a follow mode for smoother videos when moving, pan follow for horizontal movement with minimal up and down shake, and first person view mode for capturing rhythmic and dynamic movements.

Lighter Yet Durable for Reliable Usability

Even with two screens, LG WING maintains a relatively light, making it easy to hold and convenient to carry. Using slim but tough composite materials and a special perforation technique, LG engineers were able to keep the weight to just 260 grams, making LG WING no heavier than many of today’s large-display smartphones. And the ergonomic design of the device ensures a comfortable stress-free grip whether in Swivel Mode or Basic Mode.

LG WING engineers took into consideration the additional moving parts to employ features to enhance its durability and reliability. When taking a selfie, the accelerometer recognizes if the phone has been dropped and instantaneously retracts the pop-up camera lens to prevent any damage. Another example of quality engineering is the hinge module with Hydraulic Damper, which reduces stress on mechanism when the Main Screen is rotated. Thermoplastic polyoxymethylene is applied to the back of the Main Screen to facilitate smoother swiveling and to prevent scratches on the Second Screen. The hinge mechanism in LG WING has proven to be perfectly reliable even after 200,000 swivels.

To meet customers’ expectation of 5G services, engineers equipped LG WING with Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 765G 5G Mobile Platform with the Snapdragon X52 5G Modem-RF System. As Qualcomm’s first mobile platform to integrate an application processor and 5G Modem-RF system, this chipset brings best-in-class AI performance, lightning-fast 5G connectivity and intelligent multi-camera capabilities while also preserving battery life. Thanks in part to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Elite Gaming™ features, LG WING delivers a truly unique entertainment experience with instantaneous response times, cinema-quality graphics and incredible audio.

“Congratulations to the entire LG team on the announcement of the LG WING, a truly innovative device powered by the Snapdragon 765G 5G Mobile Platform that perfectly encapsulates the vision of LG’s new Explorer Project,” said Jim Tran, senior vice president and general manager, mobile handsets, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “Qualcomm Technologies actively collaborated with LG Mobile on ways to optimize the performance of the products of the Explorer Project that will bring new and different experiences to consumers.”

“LG WING ushers in a new era of mobile discovery and is an exciting beginning to our Explorer Project initiative,” said Morris Lee, president of LG’s Mobile Communications Company. “Different than anything else on the market today, this innovative device challenges the industry status quo and provides consumers with a new mobile experience that will open up new ways to think about the smartphone.”

LG WING will initially launch in South Korea starting next month to be followed by key markets in North America and Europe.

Consumers are encouraged to visit http://lgwing.me/Virtual_Unboxing to experience LG WING for themselves. Interested developers can go to http://mobile.developer.lge.com to learn more about creating unique applications for LG WING.

A DAY AT THE RACES, BRITISH STYLE

Horse racing is an English tradition that goes back much further than the British people’s love of tea and crumpets. The first race likely took place on English soil as early as 200 AD, during the Roman era. Today, horse racing is as popular in England as it ever was but the unusual circumstances of 2020 have forced the sport to undergo some changes.

Horses racing at the Qatar Goodwood Festival, which was held in the south of England

This year’s Qatar Goodwood Festival, an annual summer horse race in the south of England, took place without live spectators for the first time in its storied history. To recreate some of the fun and excitement of the track without actually being there, LG SIGNATURE hosted a special event for a select group of storytellers. The exclusive affair was held in a private lounge at The Kennels, a sporting club on the Goodwood Estate, and offered a unique, fully-catered experience with a backdrop of LG’s most premium appliances.

Two attendees to the LG SIGNATURE Goodwood races event check out the LG SIGNATURE Wine Cellar while testing its InstaView feature by knocking on its glass panel

Guests included British actress Naomie Harris, chef and model Isaac Carew and influencer Hermione Olivia, each hosting a day with LG SIGNATURE. In the refined surroundings of The Kennels, attendees watched the races live on a breathtaking LG SIGNATURE 77-inch OLED TV while enjoying fine wine chilled to perfection in LG’s Wine Cellar and canapés served fresh from the LG SIGNATURE Refrigerator. Goodwood’s very own tipster was on hand to help the guests place bets on the races, with all winnings donated to Shooting Star Children’s Hospices.

With the track closed to all but jockeys, trainers, essential staff and broadcasting personnel, LG SIGNATURE was a very visible presence at the prestigious event. On the final day of the meet, the LG SIGNATURE Apprentice Handicap Stakes was broadcast live on Racing TV, LG’s prominent branding and all.

A winning jockey from the Qatar Goodwood Festival is presented with a glass trophy and a bottle of champagne in front of an LG SIGNATURE-branded sign

LG SIGNATURE also arranged a private tour of Goodwood House, seat of the Duke of Richmond, with guests partaking in the traditional race week portrait on the front steps of the historic estate, socially distanced, of course. The tradition dates back to the 1800s, with photos regularly featuring royalty such as King Edward VII and other notables of English society. On the third day of this year’s event, LG guests were joined by the Duke of Richmond himself for a truly unforgettable group portrait.

Stylish models try to recreate an iconic photo from the 1800s on the front steps of Goodwood House

Laura Normanton, executive editor at House & Garden magazine, enjoyed the entire experience provided by LG SIGNATURE and was extremely enamored of the Wine Cellar, calling it “the chicest thing ever” while host Hermione Olivia admitted to having eyes for the ZX OLED TV: “I need it for my dream home one day!”

Sophia Charalambous from the Mayfair Times commented, “COVID-19 tried its best to scupper an exciting day at the races, but thanks to LG SIGNATURE, that didn’t happen. We were able to watch all the races from the comfort of The Kennels. Recreating an old photograph on the steps of Goodwood House with fellow guests topped off a fantastic day.”

At a time when most sports clubs are struggling to stay relevant, LG’s support for a celebrated English tradition during trying times delivered an experience to remember for lucky guests. Not only were LG SIGNATURE products perfectly at home in the premium environs of the Goodwood Estate, the special guests who were invited experienced something quite special while staying safe.

FIRST MICRO LED DISPLAY FROM LG SETS NEW STANDARD FOR COMMERCIAL DISPLAY TECHNOLOGY

LG MAGNIT Delivers Astonishing Images with Deep Blacks and
Authentic Colors, Easy Setup, Enhanced Durability

A modern interior space boasting natural light from its expansive windows has LG MAGNIT hanging on the wall, the new Micro LED signage solution displaying a beautiful, crystal-clear night scene of Italian city Florence

SEOUL, Sep. 10, 2020 — Launching this week in key markets of the Americas, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, LG Electronics’ new Micro LED signage solution, LG MAGNIT, will deliver groundbreaking picture quality and durability with LG’s proprietary Black Coating display technology as well as streamlined installation with its clever block-assembly design.

An evolutionary step forward in display technology, Micro LED features self-emissive micrometer-scale pixels applied directly to the substrate board, to deliver sharper images with improved contrast and a wider viewing angle. And LG’s new Black Coating technology applied to the front of the displays is designed to improve contrast and color accuracy while helping to protect the tiny LED pixels from moisture, dust and external impact. Anti-glare and anti-fingerprint, LG Black Coating also minimizes distracting reflections and makes it easier to remove unsightly smudges.

The versatile LG MAGNIT is ideal for luxury consumers seeking a premium, large-scale display for the home with 163 inches of 4K resolution for enjoying favorite movies, series and sports. Featuring LG’s webOS smart signage platform for intuitive navigation and control of the many useful functions, including features and presets, LG MAGNIT’s superb picture quality is boosted by an AI-powered α (Alpha) image processor found in state-of-the-art LG TVs that intelligently analyzes content and source and automatically optimizes visual output in real-time.

In addition to spectacular images, LG MAGNIT offers the benefit of hassle-free installation and configuration. Each Micro LED cabinet measures only 600W x 337.5H x 44.9D mm and links seamlessly to other cabinets, allowing technicians to quickly and painlessly erect large-scale display on site. The ability to smoothly send and receive signals wirelessly is due to LG’s non-contact connector technology. LG’s block-assembly design allows power to be sent to each cabinet via pin connectors located on the edges of the LED cabinet hub. And LG MAGNIT cuts the time needed for cable management, with only a few wires on the back of the displays to link the cabinets to system controllers and power mains.

“It’s always exciting to present true innovation in LED signage and we are particularly thrilled to introduce our LG MAGNIT lineup at this time,” said Paik Ki-mun, senior vice president and head of the Information Display business unit of LG Electronics Business Solutions Company. “With its combination of superior picture quality, expandability and convenient setup, LG MAGNIT is a great Micro LED signage solution for a wide variety of commercial and public spaces, including convention centers, corporate and hotel lobbies, luxury boutiques, broadcast studios, control rooms, exhibition halls and museums.”

THE SECRET WEAPON OF TOP CREATIVE PROFESSIONALS

Someone using split tabs on LG’s new UltraWide monitor in their home office to talk on a video call and work on a drawing at the same time

If multitasking and accuracy on your desktop are both necessities on the job and a way of life, then one of the new breed of 21:9 aspect ratio monitors might be worth considering. With more screen real estate than standard 16:9 displays and ultra-high resolutions as well as a range of productivity-enhancing features, this wider format continues to grow in popularity around the world.

One such display in the 21:9 display category that is turning heads is LG’s new UltraWideTM monitor (model 38WN95C). Ideal for any profession but particularly well-suited for creative roles, this advanced monitor has earned considerable praise from some of the best computer animators and compositors in the movie business. To find out why LG UltraWide has become such a hit with the extraordinarily talented people behind the films we know and love, LG talked to two highly-respected creatives at the top of their respective games.

Wonrak Son, head of the composition team at Dexter Studios, is standing beside his company’s logo

Son Wonrak, Compositor (https://youtu.be/tA5NadVx8DE)

As the head of the composition team at Dexter Studios in South Korea, Wonrak Son led the 2D CGI composition work on Parasite, the hit Korean-made movie that won four Oscars at the 2020 Academy Awards. Widely regarded in Korea as one of the best in his field, Son is a big fan of the new LG UltraWide. He loves that its 38-inch curved screen with LG’s Nano IPS display technology and UltraWide QHD+ (3,840 x 1,600) resolution enables him to handle several jobs at the same time. Son also notes improved focus since switching from a two-monitor setup to LG’s widescreen solution, which provides just as much workspace without any unsightly bezels obstructing his view.

The monitor’s ability to cover 98 percent of the DCI-P3 color space is another key selling-point for Son as it allows him to achieve greater realism in his work. Additionally, he feels the monitor’s 21:9 aspect ratio can enhance productivity for video and sound editors, or for anyone who needs to use multiple software programs simultaneously. And Son isn’t shy about saying that “LG UltraWide is the king of the 21:9 monitors.”

Former Pixar animator Erick Oh’s work shown on the expansive, high-resolution screen of LG’s newest UltraWide monitor

Erick Oh, Animator (https://youtu.be/rCnkuQwyeWo)

Erick Oh, a former Pixar animator who has worked on many world-famous computer animated films including Inside Out and Coco, knew the LG 38WN95C was something special from the very first time he laid eyes on it. He says the UltraWide monitor instantly upgraded his work environment and increased his productivity. Its expansive, high-resolution screen lets him display all the files and programs he needs at once, meaning he doesn’t have to waste any time or effort constantly switching between tabs or scrolling up and down.

The UltraWide’s pixel density and accurate color reproduction are well-suited to Oh’s work as an animator, allowing him to get all the little details and every single hue exactly how he wants them. Nano particles spayed directly onto the VESA DisplayHDR™ 600 certified* monitor’s backlight absorb unnecessary light wavelengths to ensure the purest colors possible as well as enhanced brightness. Oh describes LG UltraWide as “a revolution” and feels there is no way he could ever go back to a conventional 16:9 monitor.

Leading the 21:9 aspect ratio monitor category since its launch in 2012, the UltraWide brand is synonymous with quality and has consistently earned top honors at international awards programs including the TIPA World Awards and CES Innovation Award with LG 38WN95C added yet another CES Innovation Award to the brand’s impressive tally earlier this year.

The secret weapon of top creative professionals around the globe, LG UltraWide is the monitor that lets you get more done with greater ease.

LG Presents “Life’s Good From Home” Vision for the Future of Home Living

Showcasing Next-Generation Innovations for Home and Beyond at IFA 2020

LG’s president & CTO Dr. I.P. Park introduces LG Electronics’ Life’s Good from Home vision for the future in hologram form at IFA 2020

BERLIN, Sep. 3, 2020 — At IFA 2020, LG Electronics (LG) presented a new consumer experience unlike any previous IFA show. LG CTO Dr. I.P. Park took to the stage in hologram form to talk about Life’s Good from Home, the company’s vision for the future. LG’s future vision maximizes three core home values of care, convenience and entertainment.

“These unprecedented times have made us more uncertain about the future,” remarked Dr. Park. “LG believes this presents a unique opportunity to make real change in the world by realizing a new potential for the home. As a leading lifestyle innovator, we’ve doubled-down on our commitment to develop new and improved products and services that provide a good life for consumers the world over.”

LG’s AI platform, LG ThinQ, continues to evolve and innovate to create new services, solutions and business models to lead change. “LG ThinQ is the beating heart of our life-enriching innovative experiences,” Dr. Park said when demonstrating how the updated LG ThinQ app delivers a user-centric experience that extends from customer support to purchasing supplies. Using the app, the AI-based Proactive Customer Care (PCC) can analyze and report back the operational status of appliances and even provide maintenance or repair advice.

LG has spearheaded innovation that transcends the home, investing in wide-ranging technologies as it pursues improving everyday life. LG’s CLOi line of robots can provide a safe, socially distant way to deliver services in restaurants and hospitals and since July 2020 LG CLOi ServeBots have been deployed in commercial locations throughout Korea. As a pioneer in robotics, LG has set its sights on expanding the robot ecosystem through its CLOi platform, focusing on automated driving, situation analysis, and movement control by reducing the time it takes to develop cutting edge products, a driving force for the industry’s growth. Dr. Park highlighted how CLOi 2.0 could serve as an efficient substitute for human interaction, compatible with the open source Robot Operating System (ROS) 2.

LG is also developing technology for remote healthcare management as part of its digital transformation efforts. “Through AI, we can easily and more precisely monitor the health of consumers 24/7,” said Dr. Park. “Recently in Korea we successfully administered a pilot project with Seoul National University in using AI to improve the monitoring and care of patients with chronic conditions.”

Dr. Kim Kyung-ho, executive vice president of the LG’s Business Solutions Europe, followed Dr. Park on stage to introduce LG ThinQ Home. An actual living space and complete home solution in the South Korean city of Pangyo known as Korea’s Silicon Valley, ThinQ Home is a real demonstration of LG’s Life’s Good from Home vision as the ideal future residence designed to deliver a safer, more convenient lifestyle through the company’s latest appliances and IT technologies.

In Korea, the flesh and blood Dr. Park guided the IFA audience through LG ThinQ Home and demonstrated Home Concierge, a smart mirror that allows easy and complete home control by monitoring appliances and home energy usage through a state-of-the-art energy panel. Connected to the home’s electric car charging station, the high-tech panel lets homeowners charge and monitor their electric car remotely.

In addition to its holographic media event, LG’s videos illustrate its vision for accelerating everyday innovation, one featuring a special guest appearance by K-pop star Henry Lau touring the LG ThinQ Home. This video and more can be enjoyed on the LG Global YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/GlobalLG) while LG’s virtual exhibition (http://Exhibition.LG.com) provides a vivid experience of LG’s innovative products and services at IFA 2020.

SEOUL, Sep. 2, 2020 — LG Electronics (LG) is kicking off the Explorer Project with a 30-second invitation video hinting at the first smartphone under this new lineup. Explorer Project is both an initiative and a category and will include devices that deliver distinctive and yet unexplored usability experiences, a strategy that tackles uncharted territory in the industry. Details of the Explorer Project will be officially announced September 14 at 10:00 (EDT) on LG Mobile’s official YouTube channel and Facebook page.

LG created the Explorer Project in response to the diverse usage needs of today’s smartphone customers and to deliver much-needed curiosity and excitement to the mobile sector. The initiative aims to “explore” and inject new life into untapped areas and reshape and expand the current user experience, with assistance from its trusted platform partners.

Explorer Project also marks a new direction in the alignment strategy of LG’s smartphones. The Explorer Project will focus solely on new usability that is discovered with innovative designs while LG’s new Universal Line will be the company’s lineup of competitive devices that focus on consumer lifestyles, such as LG VELVET.

LG is collaborating with industry partners Rave, Ficto, Tubi and NAVER to develop unique features that will elevate the mobile viewing experience on Explorer Project devices. Qualcomm Technologies is again contributing its industry-leading processing technology and know-how to drive the outstanding performance of LG’s differentiated lineup.

Rave gives users wherever they may be the ability to communicate and enjoy streaming content together while Ficto, which pioneered revenue sharing for mobile content, aligned the global launch of its streaming service with the Explorer Project. Tubi, the largest ad-supported free streaming service is also an early partner of the Explorer Project. South Korean search leader NAVER, which worked in close partnership with LG on the LG Dual Screen, is developing a version of its Whale browser with unique browsing features for Explorer Project devices.

“LG and platform partners feel it is vitally important to demonstrate to consumers new and differentiated user experiences in the smartphone space,” said Morris Lee, president of LG’s Mobile Communications Company. “LG has always been a pioneer in pushing the envelope of smartphone form factors, the only way to bring about much needed innovation in the mobile market.”

LG’S 8K OLED TVS TAKE PC ENTERTAINMENT TO NEW HEIGHTS WITH MOST ADVANCED GAMING CAPABILITY

Real 8K Action Powered by Powerful NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30
Series GPU Now a Reality on Ultra Large LG OLED TVs

A pair of LG 8K OLED TVs - one on a TV stand and the other mounted on the wall - offering smooth and immersive 8K gaming experiences with the LG OLED AI ThinQ, Real 8K, and NVIDIA G-Sync logos in the corners of both displays

SEOUL, Sep. 2, 2020 — LG Electronics (LG), the first TV manufacturer to commercialize 8K OLED TVs, again set an industry benchmark with the world’s first 8K TVs to support the powerful new NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 30 Series GPU.* Powered by the company’s α (Alpha) 9 Gen 3 AI processor capable of delivering 8K full bandwidth support, LG’s 8K OLED TV steps up its game to offer avid gamers across the globe the most compelling and mesmerizing gameplay on glorious displays with over 33 million self-lit pixels.

LG OLED TVs have long been considered among the most advanced gaming TVs in the world because of their self-lit pixel technology and support for the latest HDMI specifications such as Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), ultra-fast response rate and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). Because LG OLED TVs are NVIDIA G-SYNC® Compatible, LG customers have been able to enjoy their favorite games with GeForce RTX 20 Series and GTX 16 Series GPUs for a smooth, immersive gaming experience without the flicker, tearing or stuttering common to most common displays.

The α (Alpha) 9 Gen 3 AI processor in LG’s OLED and NanoCell 8K TVs take real-time ray-tracing performance to a new level and set a new standard for gaming-optimized picture and performance. With LG 8K OLED TVs able to deliver 8K content at 60 frames per second and handling staggering 48Gbps speeds, playing 8K games on LG OLED TVs and a NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 30 Series GPU has never looked so good.

“We are excited to bring GeForce RTX 30-Series GPU support to LG’s 2020 8K OLED TVs,” said Matt Wuebbling, vice president of global GeForce marketing at NVIDIA. “Gamers will be blown away by the performance on these TVs when playing the latest 8K PC games featuring the most realistic ray-tracing and cutting-edge AI features powered by the GeForce RTX 3090 GPU.”

To heighten gamers’ sense of immersion, LG 8K OLED TVs also support Dolby Atmos and LG’s deep learning-based AI Acoustic Tuning, which measures the acoustic environment and adjusts the sound for greater accuracy. The TVs are also BT Surround ready to allow two LG Bluetooth speakers to be connected simultaneously, up-mixing 2.0 channel sound to virtual 4.0 surround sound for more immersion in favorite games. And with LG ThinQ capability built-in, hands-free voice control is possible for those moments when reaching for the remote is not an option.

“The combination of LG OLED TV’s awe-inspiring picture quality and NVIDIA’s technological prowess offers next-level gaming experience in unbelievable 8K,” said S.P. Baik, vice president of the TV product planning division of LG’s Home Entertainment Company. “Following last year’s successful partnership with the world’s top gaming hardware brand, we look forward to expanding our relationship with NVIDIA.”
