LG ESTABLISHES NEW HD STANDARD IN MOBILE HANDSETS WITH “TRUE HD IPS”

Hyo-rin Min, a celebrity model of LG Optimus 3D, Sang-deok Yeo, Head of Mobile/OLED Department at LG Display and Young-bae, Na, Head of Business Marketing at LG Electronics Mobile Communication Company hold LG Optimus 3Ds and show its front views

SEOUL, Oct. 10, 2011 -– Having earlier this year introduced 3D without glasses on the Optimus 3D and the 700-nit superbright NOVA display on the Optimus Black, LG today raised the ante with a new breakthrough in the form of “True HD IPS” display.
True HD IPS display made its world debut on the new Optimus LTE Smartphone in Seoul, Korea, where both the phone and display set a new standard for best-in-class resolution on a 4G connected device. The new smartphone’s 4.5–inch True HD IPS display, developed in close collaboration with sister company LG Display, offers advanced resolution, brightness and clarity and shows colors in their most natural tones, as they were meant to be seen.
In a report recently issued by international product testing and certification agency Intertek, IPS displays perform better than AMOLED in areas of color accuracy, brightness, battery efficiency and performance.
According to LG, True HD IPS display takes the viewing experience on mobile handsets to the next level by offering:
· More information at a glance with genuine 1280 x 720 HD resolution and 16:9 screen viewing without  distortion, which are the same standards used in the television industry;
· Sharper and crisper text thanks to 329 ppi real RGB resolution;
· True natural colors that are the most comfortable to eyes;
· Automatic color adjustments applied by LG’s exclusive Mobile HD Graphic Engine;
· HD Movie Editor to create personalized HD videos quickly and easily.
“Since mobile devices are widely expected to become the main platform for media consumption in the LTE era, high resolution displays on smartphones will be even more necessary”, said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Optimus LTE with True HD IPS display will usher in a new standard by enabling users to enjoy beautiful and detailed high definition content even while on the go.”

With a large 1,830 mAh battery, Optimus LTE is perfectly suited for multimedia usage. In addition, the device enables content sharing seamlessly through HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) and DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance).
“LG Optimus LTE is the first smartphone in Korea to offer vivid and clear HD content on a 4G network,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Our goal is to be a leading player in LTE devices by continuously offering best-in-class products based on our LTE patents and know-how.”
According to a recent report by Jefferies & Company, LG was listed as the global leader in LTE patents with ownership of 23 percent of approximately 1,400 LTE patents filed worldwide, with a financial value of almost USD 8 billion. LG EMBRACES IPS PANEL TECHNOLOGY FOR A NEW STANDARD IN MONITOR PERFORMANCE

With Expert-Tuned Color Accuracy And Wide Viewing Angle, LG’s IPS5 Monitors
Let Users Experience and Share Images As They Were Intended To Be Seen
LG IPS monitor IPS5 with a camcorder at its front.
SEOUL, Sep. 29, 2011 -– LG Electronics (LG) has introduced a new monitor series based on in-plane switching (IPS) technology, the IPS5. The IPS5 series is the latest version of the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) Award winning monitor lineups of the IPS1 and IPS6 series. The IPS5 series has been upgraded with expert color calibration to ensure that colors remain sharp and true. The IPS5 series is equipped with outstanding color reproduction technology intended for enterprise customers and photographers who require bright and realistic images.
“We’re committed to continually improving all aspects of our monitors with the best technology currently available,” said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company. “The IPS5 series is proof of that commitment, as these monitors deliver superbly accurate images with true color representation with a wide viewing angle for demanding professionals.”
Expertly Tuned Color Accuracy
By replacing TN (twisted nematic) panels with IPS, the IPS5 series provides exceptionally realistic images with enhanced color accuracy. This accuracy is further assured by a report on color-calibration prepared by LG experts, which accompanies the monitors. The IPS5 series is one of very few high-end professional graphics monitors to offer such a guarantee. In turn, customers can be assured that onscreen colors are identical to real-life colors.
Consistent Color Tone Through Consistent Color Temperature
The IPS5 monitors maintain color temperatures at an optimum level of around 6,500K (Kelvin), enabling reproductions of colors closest to the original. This consistency helps retain color impressions identical to those on the original image, so viewers can always see the image as it was intended.
Color Shift Free
Thanks to an alchemic convergence of IPS and LED, the new IPS5 monitors deliver highly advanced picture quality without any color shift. They also greatly extend viewing angle, ensuring viewers see crisp, realistic pictures from almost any position in front of the screen.
With its Dual Package feature, the IPS5 allows easy configuration of a second display, such as setting the split main monitor screen in dual mode, connecting a second monitor with a single click and showing the task bar on both monitors. Additionally, the Super Energy Saving technology makes the IPS5 as eco-friendly as it is technologically sophisticated. The IPS5P series is ergonomically designed with a height-adjustable stand which can be adjusted to almost any angle.
The IPS5 series is available this month while the IPS5P will be introduced in Europe in November.

LG TAPPED TO INTRODUCE CAPCOM’S STREET FIGHTER IV ON UPCOMING HD SMARTPHONES

One of the World’s Most Popular Video Games Comes to LG’s Optimus Series

Representatives of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company and CAPCOM are shaking hands

SEOUL, Sep. 19, 2011 -– LG Electronics (LG) announced today that it has entered into an exclusive deal with CAPCOM, Japan’s legendary game developer known for creating multi-million selling franchises. The agreement gives LG exclusive rights to Street Fighter IV on its first HD Android smartphone for three months after its launch.
The Street Fighter series, which debuted in 1987, is found on millions of game consoles and in arcades all over the word but has never before been offered on the Android platform. Street Fighter IV will make its Android smartphone debut on LG’s global apps site (www.lgworld.com) in the fourth quarter.
“We are honored to be able to bring one of the most popular fighting games of all time into the Android ecosystem,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “As we prepare our first HD smartphone for launch, it was important for us to be able to offer HD content that would really demonstrate this phone’s benefits. The HD version of Street Fighter certainly fills this objective. We are also confident that LG’s soon-to-be-unveiled HD display technology will give Street Fighter fans a whole new reason to play the game again.”
“We very much look forward to expanding the legacy of Street Fighter to the Android platform through this partnership with LG,” said Yoshinori Ishida, Deputy Head of Consumer Games Business Division and General Manager of Consumer Games Marketing Department at CAPCOM. “We wanted to ensure the Street Fighter concept transitioned seamlessly to Android.”

Nearly 30 million games have been sold to date, making it one of the best-selling video game franchises in history and earning it an entry in Guinness Book of World Records in 2008. Street Fighter has also spawned a live-action film, several animated movies, comic books and even a song.

LG, PHILIPS AND SHARP JOIN HANDS TO OFFER MULTI-PLATFORM SMART TV APPS

Write Once, Run Everywhere: TV Manufacturers Cooperate to
Maximize Effectiveness of Smart TV Offerings
BERLIN, Sep.01, 2011 –- LG, Philips and Sharp have agreed to work together to define common technical requirements for their Smart TVs, based upon open standards such as HTML5, CE-HTML and HbbTV. The group’s first step will be to introduce the first beta version of a common Software Development Kit (SDK), which highlights the need to define the technical requirements that would allow content developers to create a single application that can run on Smart TVs from LG, Philips and Sharp Aquos Net+.
The initiative aims to simplify the way applications are developed and offered, increasing productivity of the application ecosystem for the Smart TV industry. Currently, application developers must spend much time and effort porting and testing their applications on different platforms. By simplifying this step, developers will be able to spend more time actually creating applications such as movies-on-demand, music services, games and social networking services. And developers will be able to maximize their reach across Smart TV’s on different TV platforms, giving more consumers access to a wider variety of content.
“This cooperation is nothing less than a watershed in the brief history of Smart TVs,” said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company. “By working in partnership with two innovators in TVs, we’ve taken a major step towards creating an app market every bit as inventive and dynamic as the one that exists for smartphones.”
LG, Philips and Sharp invite other Smart TV makers and application developers participate in the initiative and provide ideas for simplifying the development process while improving the user experience.
The beta version of the common SDK will be released in early October.

LG EYEING NUMBER ONE IN 3D TVS IN 2012

With Combination of 3D Technology and Smart TV Functions,
LG Aims to Lead Global 3D TV Market
BERLIN, Sep. 4, 2011 –- At IFA 2011 in Berlin, Germany, LG Electronics (LG) announced its intention to be the top 3D TV brand by the end of next year, on the back of the strong public acceptance of its CINEMA 3D TV lineup.
“The 3D TV market is expected to grow dramatically in 2012 due to technological advancements in 3D and the expansion of content distribution,” said Havis Kwon, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of LG Home Entertainment Company. “LG intends to become the leader in 3D TVs to the extent that we become synonymous with all things 3D.”
According to Mr. Kwon, the acceleration in adding smart features to 3D TVs will increase the competition for an industry-standard ecosystem. Success in the TV market will no longer rely solely on the actual TV, but instead the ecosystem, he said.
Number One in the Global 3D TV Market
Since its launch, LG’s CINEMA 3D Smart TV has already boosted LG’s share of the 3D TV market. By next year, LG will field a wider array of products from high-end to entry level with 3D included in about 70 percent of all new Home Entertainment products.
LG Electronics will continue to raise the 3D bar by working in close partnership with LG Display and other LG companies that contributed to the development of Filmed Patterned Retarder (FPR) technology, the science behind CINEMA 3D. And LG is aiming to further develop its content sourcing capabilities to provide 3D Video-on-Demand (VOD) services with an emphasis on content specially tailored for different markets.
Leading the Smart TV Business
Enhancing its Smart TV ecosystem is a key component of LG’s TV business strategy. Strategic partnerships with 3D broadcast, online video sites and game companies will enable customers to directly access a wider variety of content. The Magic Motion Remote Control, a key feature of LG’s successful Smart TV platform, will get greater functionality.
LG’s 3D TVs will gradually transition to an open architecture platform, making it far easier and convenient for developers to create apps and content for LG’s TVs. By creating a vibrant market for TV apps and content, LG expects to significantly expand the adoption of 3D.
Strengthening Development of Next-Generation Display Technology
LG is also working with LG Display to develop next generation, ultra-high definition (UD) display technology which will be integrated into OLED TVs planned for launch next year. UD screens offer four times greater resolution than existing high definition (HD) screens. Aggressive R&D will also be geared towards developing glasses-free 3D displays.
LG’s drive to take the top spot in the global 3D TV market is underpinned by ongoing improvements in LG’s manufacturing and supply chain management processes. LG plans to introduce completion-type manufacturing capabilities in markets such as Europe, North America and China and implement faster customs clearance and distribution in its logistics, all in an effort to improve the global manufacturing competitiveness of LG’s 3D TVs.

LG AIMING FOR TOP POSITION IN EUROPE IN WASHING MACHINES AND REFRIGERATORS BY 2015

LG Leveraging Smart Appliances and Aggressive Business Strategy
to Become Number One in the Region in Four Years
BERLIN, Sep. 2, 2011 –- The President of LG Electronics’ (LG) Home Appliance Company announced at IFA its goal to become the top washing machine and refrigerator brand in Europe by 2015. Speaking at Messe Berlin, Young-ha Lee, CEO of LG Electronics Home Appliance Company, said LG intends to capture 13 percent market share (sales amount based) in washing machines and 12.5 percent in refrigerators (sales amount based, excluding built-in refrigerators) in the region in four years.
“The European market is highly competitive due to established local players in the home appliance industry,” Mr. Lee said. “But LG is committed to being a brand that is embraced by European customers. We’re already ramping up our investment in the region and have products on the drawing board that are based entirely on consumer insights from European audiences.”
SOLIDIFY A PREMIUM IMAGE THROUGH SMART PRODUCTS
A key part of LG’s strategy is to solidify the company’s image as a premium brand through its smart home appliance products. LG’s strengths are in energy savings and user convenience. These benefits are made possible by LG’s smart solutions the company calls Smart ThinQ™, which includes Smart Manager, Smart Diagnosis™, Smart Access, Smart Adapt and Smart Grid.
Smart Manager manages an inventory of food stored in the refrigerator. LG’s Smart Diagnosis™ feature helps customer service representatives to quickly and efficiently troubleshoot mechanical issues. Smart Access permits consumers to remotely control home appliances using mobile devices such as smartphones. Smart Adapt recommends cooking instructions and wash cycles tailored to the consumers’ needs. And Smart Grid enables consumers to save energy costs by reducing energy consumption during peak hours, without any input from the homeowner.
LG will launch its smart home appliance products in Europe beginning with smart refrigerators in the United Kingdom (UK) at the end of this year. This will be followed by smart washing machines, smart ovens and smart robotic vacuum cleaners. LG’s smart clothing storage unit, Styler, will also make its appearance in European retailers.
EUROPEAN FOCUS, EUROPEAN STRATEGY
LG also plans to increase its market share in the European built-in appliances market by cooperating at a deeper level with distribution partners and by introducing a lineup of more localised products in key European markets such as France, Spain, Italy and Germany.
As part of this aggressive strategy, LG is ramping up its European manufacturing operations. LG’s plant in Wroclaw, Poland is expected to more than triple its production of refrigerators, expanding from the current 300,000 units annually to one million units. Its new washing machine assembly line in Poland is also targeting one million units a year. LG is looking into investing an additional USD 34 million by 2015 to further expand its European manufacturing facilities.
“These efforts are intended to meet European market demands sooner rather than later,” said LG’s Mr. Lee. “An increasing proportion of products supplying the European market will originate from European facilities instead of Korea and China.”

Taken together, the LW980S’ raft of market-leading features deliver the most convenient, comfortable and smartest 3D TV package available today.
Addressing one of the biggest complaints with other 3D TVs, the LW980S comes with comfortable, lightweight glasses that are affordably priced for large families and groups. Where previous 3D TVs suffered from a lack of  content, the LW980S’ advanced 2D to 3D conversion function guarantees a ready supply of shows and movies in top quality 3D.
The LW980S boasts CINEMA 3D’s smooth 3D picture –- the world’s first to receive a “Flicker-Free” certification from European quality assurance agencies TÜV and Intertek –- meaning viewers can watch 3D for longer periods without the headaches or dizziness that sometimes occurred with older 3D sets. Also, Wide Viewing Angle ensures they can watch the TV from practically any position in front of the TV, whether sitting, leaning back or lying down. Together with the affordable glasses, this makes the LW980S perfect for viewing in larger groups.
With its new, “smarter” CINEMA 3D LW980S, LG has created the complete 3D entertainment package. 3D Video-on-Demand –- available through LG Apps -– does even more to bolster the range of 3D content, ensuring that viewers will never be short of exciting, top-quality content to watch at home. Via the Magic Motion Remote Control, LW980S users get access to all the Premium Content they could want with just a couple of clicks on the mouse-like control. Moreover, Smart Share makes it a cinch to share content between the user’s TV, mobile phone and other digital devices.
The LW980S’ viewing experience is further enhanced by LG’s unique NANO FULL LED lighting technology. Via an extremely thin film printed with minuscule dots, NANO FULL LED disperses light more evenly across the screen, to create brighter, clearer and smoother pictures. TruMotion 400Hz ensures those pictures stay silky smooth, no matter how fast the action.
The LW980S also boasts an ultra-slim bezel that maximises display real estate for a more immersive 3D picture. With such a narrow bezel, the LW980S’ picture draws viewers right into the heart of the action. Its sleek, understated design also makes the LW980S the perfect match for any interior.

“This year we’re showcasing a full 3D ecosystem that lets customers create and share their own 3D content and then watch it on the most comfortable 3D TVs on the market,” said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company. “There is no company today as committed to giving consumers what they want than LG, and our display at this year’s IFA will show how successfully we’re achieving that.”
DO IT ALL IN 3D
LG’s booth this year opens with the 3D Attractor Zone and “DO IT All IN 3D” display, which showcase the full range and excitement of LG’s 3D Total Solution. Using a single pair of glasses across LG full product range, visitors will get their first introduction to LG’s seductively comfortable CINEMA 3D range on a spectacular array of 3D TVs, monitors and more.
LG’s premium TVs, with the wide range of CINEMA 3D TV lineup, boast all the advantages of LG’s CINEMA 3D technology -– lightweight glasses and Flicker-Free certified 3D technology -– to keep the viewing experience comfortable, exciting and free of the eyestrain and headaches that are associated with conventional 3D technologies.
And advanced 2D to 3D conversion feature means viewers can watch all their favourite shows and movies in quality 3D, while 3D Video-on-Demand, one of the new LG Apps, ensures a ready supply of custom-made 3D entertainment.
As the only company that offers 3D on screens as small as a smartphone to as large as a projector, LG will demonstrate in the Do It All In 3D zone how far it has developed the 3D ecosystem. Using the Optimus 3D smartphone, customers can actually create their own 3D content and then watch it on the go or flick it over to a computer or LG TV to see it in gripping wide-screen mode. Nearby, LG’s CINEMA 3D projector, the world’s first polarized glasses type projector to transmit Full HD pictures through a single lens, provides a 3D picture with a diagonal span that comfortably stretches to 200 inches or the full cinematic 3D experience.
True 3D Surround Sound, New Dawn for 3D Gaming
The 3D extravaganza continues with the HX906TX, a groundbreaking new 3D Sound Home Entertainment System that employs technologies including four Upright 3D Speakers and a 360-degree sound reflector to fill up all the space in the room with audio. With advances also including LG’s unique DSP algorithm, the HX906TX captures all the nuances of everyday sound, while also cascading audio downward to place the viewer right in the heart of the action.
In a special gaming section, LG will be demonstrating how its 3D TVs and monitors can bring a whole new dimension to the world of video games. With its Dual Play function, CINEMA 3D TV actually projects two different scenes via the 3D glasses, making it the ultimate platform for two-player games.
Smarter Answers, Entertainment Innovations
Demonstrating the strength of LG’s home entertainment lineup, the Smart TV zone will be showcasing the full array of LG’s highly advanced but enticingly simple Smart TV functions. The Magic Motion Remote Control offers an easy, mouse-like means to access all the TV’s content with just a few clicks, while the Home Dashboard provides an easy gateway to a vast array of Premium Content, LG Apps, Web Browser and more. With Smart Share, viewers can also share and access any content with compatible digital devices such as PCs.
The PZ850 Pentouch TV demonstrates how LG is thinking outside the box in its efforts to make home entertainment even more exciting and relevant. An innovative set combining a touchscreen with all the benefits of a first-class plasma TV, the PZ850 lets users draw directly onto the screen using a special touch pen. With its simple connectivity, the PZ850 also lets users access files such as documents and presentations
from their PC and edit or drag and drop them right on the TV screen. Packed with practical applications, the PZ850 also provides a whole new way for parents to have fun with their children.
Elsewhere, LG will be presenting its ST600 Smart TV Upgrader, which lets users turn their regular digital TVs into Smart TVs -– with the full range of LG Smart TV functions -– via a simple HDMI connection.
Flexible Options with LG’s Innovative Monitor Technology
LG is also building on its new SUPER LED lineup with the E91, E81, IPS5, E41 and E11 monitors. With a thickness of a world record 7.2mm, the E91’s SUPER Slim design complements any home or office environment while offering improved space efficiency and more flexibility. With SUPER+ Resolution, LG’s E81 ensures that pictures are exceptionally crisp and lifelike.
The IPS5’s IPS panels greatly widen the monitor’s viewing angle and deliver exceptionally realistic colors from any position. The E41 uses Dynamic Power Saving technology to achieve a 25 percent reduction in energy consumption over conventional LED monitors without sacrificing picture quality. And the entry-level E11 boasts an ergonomic design and improved energy efficiency.
LG’s culture of innovation again shines through with the D2000, the world’s first commercially available parallax barrier type glasses-free 3D monitor to feature eye tracking technology.
And finally, LG is showing how it’s pushing innovation forward in the home and office environment with the LSM-100 mouse scanner. Replacing the slow, oversized scanners of today’s home offices, the LSM-100 can scan documents as large as A3 size, making scanning simpler than ever before. With a few passes of the mouse, a large document can easily be converted into a Word file with the included OCR software.

“We see European customers as being very conscious of leading a responsible lifestyle, and LG is well placed to meet these demands,” said Young-ha Lee, President and CEO of LG Electronics Home Appliance Company. “The combination of our Core Technologies and Smart ThinQ™ technologies not only reduces energy and water usage, but also saves customers’ time and energy. The combination of the two means previously unimagined levels of convenience and energy efficiency and a fundamental change in the way people manage their homes.”
Clever Refrigerator, Revolutionized Food Management
Underpinned by the company’s signature 10-year-warranty Linear Compressor, LG’s showpiece smart side-by-side refrigerator comes with the full range of Smart ThinQ™ technologies.
Key among those smart technologies is Smart Manager, which transforms the appliance into a complete food management system. Customers can use the fridge’s LCD panel or their smartphones to check what food is inside, where it’s located and when it will expire. Customers can also set specific periods of time for their products, with Smart Manager’s freshness tracker alerting them when that time has passed.
To help keep food fresher in the fridge, Smart Manager offers a food guide option that provides detailed information about specific fruits and vegetables. The smart refrigerator even functions as an infotainment centre with access to digital photo albums, calendar, memos, news reports or an actual PC monitor, and letting customers check their social networking services, watch movies or listen to music via YouTube. By dragging and dropping food icons on the refrigerator’s LCD display or by using the voice recognition function, users can easily find out what food they have and its location, as well as its expiration dates.
LG’s Smart Diagnosis™ feature helps customer service representatives to quickly and efficiently troubleshoot mechanical issues. Once the customer contacts the LG service centre by phone, a technician will direct the customer to press the Smart Diagnosis™ button, which then triggers a series of signals that the service centre uses to determine what’s wrong and whether a service call is required. Customers will also be directly alerted about minor issues, such as the door being open or the ice-maker switched off, via an application on their smartphone.
The Smart Access feature lets customers check, also via their smartphone, what’s running low in their fridge while they’re shopping at the local grocery store. It even provides interesting recipe options for whatever food is left in the fridge. With Smart Access, accidental double purchases are a thing of the past, less food gets wasted and customers never run out of mealtime options.
The fridge is Smart Grid-ready, meaning that once local utility companies begin offering Smart Grid-compatible, differentiated energy-rate time slots, the refrigerator will automatically re-adjust its temperature and function settings to take advantage of optimum energy rates every day. In this way, the fridge saves its hardest work for time slots when energy is at its cheapest, delivering significant reductions in utility bills.
Powered by the Linear Compressor, LG’s smart refrigerator offers a smart saving solution to save energy while keeping food fresh. Smart saving provides a “Night Saving Mode” that reduces energy consumption for up to four hours at nighttime and a “Customize Saving Mode” that cuts back on energy use during periods pre-set by the customer. LG has also added the ingenious Smart Eco Door – a world-first door-in-door system – to make the overall configuration more convenient and less prone to energy loss.
A Washing Machine That Knows When And How To Help
Another Smart ThinQ™-enabled highlight at IFA 2011 is LG’s smart washing machine, which incorporates Smart Diagnosis™, Smart Access, Smart Adapt and Smart Gridready. The washer is also equipped with LG’s Inverter Direct Drive™, which eliminates belts and pulleys so the motor can deliver power directly to the drum. In doing so, it reduces vibrations and extends the life of the motor and the washing machine. LG backs the motor with a 10-year warranty.
Should a problem occur with the smart washing machine, such as water supply issues, Smart Diagnosis™ quickly and efficiently helps fix it, limiting costly, inconvenient service calls and in-home visits. Also, a downloadable smartphone application alerts customers to simpler problems, such as a door being left open. Like the refrigerator, the washing machine uses Smart Access to keep owners connected wherever they may be. If the customer needs to leave the house, he or she can leave the washing machine on with no worries at all: Smart Access makes it possible for the customers to monitor the wash cycles and operation of the washer, wherever they are. Customers can also remotely control some functions, such as changing the time setting time or adding wrinkle care function. Furthermore, pop-up messages conveniently inform the customers when the wash cycle is finished. Smart Adapt lets customers download new washing cycle programs such as Super Rinse or Baby Sanitize, enabling access to new, advanced programs and customized, quality wash cycles. Smart Adapt also lets customers update software, providing customers with all the benefits of LG’s latest developments without needing to buy a new product. In this way, customers can update and download the latest features throughout the lifetime of their LG washing machine. Also smartphone applications give customers smart know-how and useful day-to-day information such as how to tackle stains and what washing symbols mean.
LG’s smart washer is also Smart Grid-ready, meaning that in the near future the washing machine will be able to automatically readjust its settings to choose the optimum energy rate at the most efficient time of the day. This process will result in savings in electricity, and reduced electricity bills for the customers. Eco Sanitize courses with low energy use will also be made possible. It will also enhance energy efficiency for “Eco Sanitize” cycle with low energy consumption.
Lightwave: A Smarter Way to Cook
LG’s Lightwave Oven comes equipped with Smart Access, which opens up a whole array of revolutionary cooking possibilities. Customers can access the LG Server through a smartphone application and download delicious international recipes which guide them to prepare their meals. When a menu is selected, the recipe, the required time and the temperature are all set automatically, so all the customer needs to do is to press the START button. They don’t need to remember or look at cookbooks anymore. The smart oven is also equipped with LG’s Charcoal Lighting Heater™, a world-first heater made from a purely natural element that cooks food more naturally, deeply and evenly while saving time and energy. The Charcoal Lighting Heater™ is a new, tastier and healthier way to make convenient, gourmet cooking.
Smart HOM-BOT: Clean While You’re Away
More impressively, the Smart Access feature lets customers order their Smart HOMBOT to tidy up their home, and monitor how the cleaning is progressing remotely via their smartphones. The smart robotic vacuum cleaner is an example of how LG is helping customers save time on chores while making it easier to control their house work. LG plans to offer even more convenient options through Smart Access in the future.

LG DEMONSTRATES SMARTER, MORE CONVENIENT, MORE ENERGY-EFFICIENT LIFESTYLE AT IFA 2011

LG’s Smart Appliances, Led by World’s First Smart Eco Door Refrigerator,
Bring Cutting-Edge Smart Innovations to European Customers
BERLIN, Aug. 31, 2011 –- At IFA 2011, LG Electronics (LG) is showcasing its wide range of smart home appliances for the first time in Europe. With its smart refrigerator, smart washing machine, smart oven and smart robotic vacuum cleaner, LG is demonstrating how it can bring enhanced savings and convenience to customers’ daily lives.
LG’s smart appliances are underpinned by the company’s four Core Technologies -– the Linear Compressor, Inverter Direct Drive™, Lightwave technology and KOMPRESSOR™ technology –- and its Smart ThinQ™ technology, comprising Smart Manager, Smart Diagnosis™, Smart Access, Smart Adapt and Smart Grid. These unique technologies combine in LG’s products to deliver outstanding performance with extra efficiency in energy, effort and time.
The energy-efficient smart refrigerator comes with the ingenious Smart Manager, which displays the location, expiration dates, quantity, and nutritional information of foods inside the fridge. With Smart Manager, customers can efficiently keep track of the fridge contents, or check, via their smartphones, what’s in the refrigerator while they are grocery shopping. The fridge recommends tasty dishes that can be made using ingredients left over in the fridge, and is even equipped with entertainment functions such as news updates, music and social media services.
At IFA, LG’s smart refrigerator includes the world’s first door-in-door system, known as the Smart Eco Door. The smaller door attached to the fridge door provides easier access to frequently sought-after items in the refrigerator, thereby helping reduce electricity usage.
“For LG, IFA 2011 will be all about saving energy and offering greater convenience,” said Young-ha Lee, President and CEO of LG Electronics Home Appliance Company. “LG’s signature Core Technologies combine with LG’s appliances to provide outstanding results, greater convenience and energy efficiency. The Smart ThinQTM technology simplifies the process of operating and managing appliances, fixing problems, and above all, controlling the appliances the way the customer wants.”
LG will also be showcasing its smart appliances’ Smart Diagnosis™ function, which helps customers quickly and efficiently troubleshoot mechanical issues over the phone as well as through a smartphone application, thereby limiting costly, inconvenient service calls and in-home visits. In addition, the Smart Access feature adds even greater convenience by letting customers control their appliances remotely via their smartphones. For example, customers can turn their smart robotic vacuum cleaners on and off, and also monitor the machine while they are away from home, saving time on cleaning chores. Smart Adapt lets customers download new, advanced programs and software updates for their appliances. Customers of LG smart washing machines, for instance, can download new customized wash cycles such as Super Rinse or Baby Sanitize. Smart Adapt provides customers with all the benefits of LG’s newest technological developments without having to buy a new product. In this way, customers can keep their appliances completely up-to-date throughout the machine’s lifetime.
In addition to the smart appliances, LG will be demonstrating its energy-efficient A+++ rated bottom-freezer, the first 385-litre capacity bottom-freezer to receive such a high energy rating.
Equipped with LG’s 6 Motion Direct Drive and TrueSteam™ technologies, the 12kg front load washing machine combines the largest capacity of a washer in a standard size with a 20 percent increase in energy efficiency compared to the usual A+++ washing machine. The washing machine is also highly durable.
Also on show, LG’s revolutionary vacuum cleaner offers thorough and effortless cleaning with smart sensors, in which the vacuum automatically follows the user when vacuuming. The award-winning Lightwave Convection Oven uses a world’s-first Charcoal Lighting Heater™, a purely natural element, that cooks gourmet dishes naturally, healthy and easily. The LG Styler is a new concept clothing manager caring for clothes fresher by reducing everyday wrinkles and unpleasant odours, while also sterilizing them with steam. Finally, LG’s stylish, harmonious built-in appliances — the culmination of the four Core Technologies — will also be on display.
