LG USHERS IN A NEW ERA OF VIEWING PLEASURE WITH “ULTIMATE DISPLAY” OLED TV

Based on WRGB Technology, World’s Largest and Slimmest OLED TV Demonstrates
LG’s TV Leadership by Delivering Unrivalled Picture Quality with Gorgeous Design

MONACO, May 23, 2012 -– LG Electronics (LG) ushered in a new era of television with the unveiling of the world’s largest and slimmest 55-inch OLED TV on European soil at Monaco’s renowned Salle des Etoiles. In front of an audience of 400 dealers, journalists and special guest F1 champion Sebastian Vettel, LG officials vowed to develop the most advanced commercial OLED TV in the market and to be the first company to bring these TVs to European consumers in the second half of the year.
“In the history of television, there have been very few innovations as impactful as the coming of OLED TV,” said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG’s Home Entertainment Company. “We say THE ULTIMATE DISPLAY because LG OLED TV is truly above all expectations and beyond everyone’s imagination with uncompromising picture quality and beautiful design. This year, we plan to make OLED synonymous with LG.”
The OLED TV’s WRGB technology is the culmination of years of research and development at LG, the company behind the world’s first commercialized 15-inch OLED TV in 2009. LG’s 4 Color Pixel technology relies on a white sub-pixel to perfect the color output. A Color Refiner enhances the image, resulting in pictures that are the most vibrant, natural and comfortable to the human eye. The screen also delivers a perfect viewing experience without distortion or loss of contrast regardless of ambient brightness or viewing angle.
And unlike LCD or LED displays which require backlights, OLED TVs generate their own light, eliminating the need for backlighting. Furthermore, by utilizing carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) for the exterior, LG engineers were able to create a final product with a thickness of only 4mm and weighed only 10kg. Thus the Paper Slim design philosophy was born. What’s more, LG’s OLED TV combines the company’s industry-leading CINEMA 3D technology with Smart TV capabilities, creating the most immersive and comprehensive home entertainment experience on the market today.
“With OLED TV leading our premium product lineup in Europe, we have a very strong case to become the number one TV brand in this region.” said Stanley Cho, head of LG’s Europe Operations. “Until that day, we will continue to develop the products that have made us the most innovative home entertainment company in the industry.”
Along with OLED TV, LG introduced the company’s latest premium TV lineup for the European market. Ranging from CINEMA 3D Smart TVs with CINEMA SCREEN Design to Ultra Definition (UD) 3D TVs, this year’s TV lineup is LG’s most aggressive in terms of technology and design, reinforcing LG’s premium image.

SEOUL, May 17, 2012 –- The Optimus LTE II from LG Electronics (LG), the world’s first smartphone offering 2GB RAM for optimal LTE connectivity, speed and stability, will be available in Korea starting this week, the company announced today.

The Optimus LTE II’s 2GB DDR RAM, offering an optimal environment for multitasking and running large applications, blurs the line even more between smartphones and portable computers such as laptops and netbooks. The device’s 4.7-inch True HD IPS display is a bright 550 nits with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The Dual-Core Qual-comm one-chip solution incorporates both the LTE modem and Application Processor (AP) for advanced power efficiency.

LG sets a new ceiling for smartphones with a removable 2,150mAh battery that is the largest currently available on a LTE smartphone in the 4- to 5-inch display category.

“The Optimus LTE II is the most powerful smartphone technology currently available in Korea,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “With a faster LTE network, the barrier for downloading and running very large applications is no longer a significant one for many customers, which is why LG saw a need for more RAM on high-end smartphones.”

The new User Interface (UI) on Optimus LTE II offers a diverse range of convenient features such as face recognition unlocking, widget size control and easy-to-organize folder management. Furthermore, Optimus LTE II comes with the Quick MemoTM fea-ture which first debuted on the Optimus Vu: that allows for quick note-taking from any screen without opening a separate application.

Users will also benefit from the most current Android 4.0 OS (Ice Cream Sandwich) on the Optimus LTE II, the first smartphone from LG in Korea to offer this operating system. With the smarter and faster ICS OS, users can enjoy a more advanced multitasking experience.

Another innovative feature only available for Opitmus LTE II is the optional magnetic induction wireless charging system, sold separately. The smartphone can be recharged by placing the device on the wireless battery charging pad. The system has been recognized by the Wireless Power Consortium with its “Qi” (pronounced chee) logo, assuring interoperability with all other Qi devices.

Fast Performance, Superb IPS Display and Biggest Battery in its Class

A side, vertical front, rear and 15-degree horizontal front view of the LG Optimus 4X HD above the logos of Optimus 4X HD, True HD IPS and SiO+ technology

SEOUL, May 15, 2012 –- LG announced that the Optimus 4X HD, which was first introduced at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February, will be available next month in key markets starting in Western Europe.

Beyond the fast NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, LG’s latest Android 4.0 device boasts the biggest battery among Quad-Core smartphones at 2,150mAh and a superb high resolution viewing experience with in the 4.7-inch True HD IPS display. Since MWC, the Optimus 4X HD has been upgraded with new SiO+ battery technology, Quick MemoTM to enhance productivity and Media PlexTM for an advanced multimedia experience.

The Optimus 4X HD is fitted with NVIDIA’s 4-PLUS-1™ Quad-Core mobile processor, the Tegra® 3, which utilizes a fifth core for the best power efficiency and outstanding performance. For maximum performance, Tegra® 3 runs on all four cores but when in standby mode the processor defaults to the fifth, battery-saver core. In a future upgrade, LG will introduce Eco-Mode specifically for the Optimus 4X HD which will allow users to manually shut down any of the Tegra 3’s cores for even more control over power consumption and performance.

The removable 2,150mAh battery utilizes advanced SiO+ technology to provide higher energy density for more power and longer run times without adding bulk to the phone’s already svelte form factor.

“Beyond the fast processor, superb display and largest-in-class battery, the Optimus 4X HD is the first LG smartphone to feature the new User Experience (UX),” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “As the smartphone segment consolidates even further, it’s becoming more and more apparent that both great software and great hardware are crucial to stay on top of the game. LG intends to be a strong contender in both areas and the Optimus 4X HD is our proof.”

One of the new UX features in the Optimus 4X HD is Quick MemoTM, which first appeared in the Optimus Vu:. Quick MemoTM is not an app but is integrated into the operating system of the Optimus 4X HD so that it can be activated within any application, including games or video players. It gives one the ability to jot memos or notes over a screen image for saving or sharing with others. The version of Quick MemoTM found on the Optimus 4X HD is a newer version that allows URLs imbedded in memos to directly connect to web pages.

Media Plex TM is the newest addition to the Optimus 4X HD. This is a collection of software features that take image and video playback on the smartphone to a level that until now was only possible on a PC or laptop. Some of the innovative features offered by Media Plex TM include:

• Fingertip Seek that shows a preview of any video frame simply by touching the progress bar;
• Live Zooming which allows viewers to zoom in and out by pinching during video playback;
• Video Speed Control for precise control of the playback speed of a video;
• Thumbnail List Play which enables users to view thumbnails of videos playing while watching another video full screen.

The advanced 8.0MP BSI (backside illumination) sensor camera of the Optimus 4X HD comes with a powerful new feature that allows users to select and save the best shot among the images taken just before pressing the shutter button.

And with MHL (Mobile High Definition Link) and DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance), there are multiple ways to connect the phone to TVs and other devices in the home.

The Optimus 4X HD will be rolled out in Europe followed by countries in Asia, CIS, South and Central America in the coming months.

LG CINEMA 3D TV RECOGNIZED IN EUROPE AS CLIMATE-FRIENDLY TV

LG’s TV Receives Climatop Label in Recognition of Reduced Carbon Emissions by
Cutting Power Consumption and Product Weight and Using Fewer Materials

Four LG employees present the Climatop certificate behind LG’s CINEMA 3D Smart TV model 47LM760S.

SEOUL, May. 11, 2012 -– LG Electronics (LG) announced that its CINEMA 3D Smart TV (Model Number: 47LM760S) has received the Climatop Label for its effectiveness in cutting carbon emissions and for LG’s climate-friendly production and transportation process. Climatop is an independent labeling organization based in Switzerland that supports climate-friendly purchasing behavior as well as a long-term development and distribution of climate-friendly products and services.
“Power consumption is a major source of carbon emissions, and at LG, we’ve been looking at advanced techniques to make TVs that use less power,” said Seogho Ro, head of LG Electronics’ TV division. “We’re also aggressively pursuing manufacturing and delivery processes that cut back carbon emissions. This includes giving support to business partners who also promote green business practices.”
The Climatop Label reflects LG’s pledge to reduce carbon emissions. Climatop’s independent tests showed that the emissions created by the 47LM760S are significantly lower than other 3D Smart TVs.
The lower emissions are a direct result of the 47LM760S’s lighter weight. These weight reductions are made possible by the lightweight 3D glasses and the almost-zero bezel Cinema Screen design. All together, the weight savings made the 47LM760S 14 percent lighter than the previous model. The reduced weight also translates into less energy required for transportation and distribution of the TVs to retailers and customers.
Using 20 percent less power than previous TVs, the 47LM760S was also given an A+ for energy efficiency, high level in Europe’s grading system. If the 47LM760S were to replace a conventional TV, it would save approximately 90kg of carbon after seven years of use, which is the average life span of a TV in Europe.

LG’S NEW CLOUD MONITORS COMBINE UPoE AND IPS TO CREATE A TOTAL BUSINESS SOLUTION

P Series Improves Business Efficiency, Reduces Costs,
Takes Up Less Space and Is Easier on the Eyes
A right-side view of LG cloud monitor P Series model N2311AZ.
SEOUL, May. 3, 2012 –- LG Electronics (LG) unveiled its advanced P Series of cloud monitors, allowing companies to do away with desktops and laptops altogether. The new VMware-based Zero Client monitors can be networked to create a virtual computing system and come packaged with Cisco’s Universal Power over Ethernet (UPoE) technology, enabling centralized resources, greater system security and reduced costs.
“These monitors are a highly appealing option for the next generation workspace archi-tecture,” said J. J. Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of IT Business Unit of LG Home Entertainment Company. “The P Series combines two technologies — cloud monitor networking and IPS panels — for a combination that offers exciting new possibilities in terms of efficiency in the workplace and gives LG a significant role in virtual computing.”
The P Series is a server-based model and offers a range of unique benefits. First and foremost, because the software is managed from a centralized network, there’s greater security from hacking, viruses and spyware by allowing the data flow to be more easily monitored and blocked if necessary.
LG’s Zero Client Cloud Computing technology also consolidates servers and thus requires less hardware. In fact, each station requires only a LAN cable, a keyboard and a mouse. There is no CPU, no memory and no storage. Employees don’t need to install operating systems or software, saving both time and money. Booting speeds are faster than traditional desktops, and the entire system is in line with eco-friendly green computing standards.
The P Series uses the VMware platform, which oversees server integration. VMware is an automated virtual infrastructure that helps companies further reduce costs by managing the network and ensuring system efficiency. Because the platform is automated, the delivery of IT services to each work station is faster and compliance to system specifications is guaranteed. The software also schedules secure back-ups and interruption-free system updates.
Cisco’s UPoE technology is particularly appealing for its minimal energy requirements. It delivers power over LAN cabling to networked devices and with the EnergyWise program, UPoE can track power consumption and make adjustments in real-time for greater efficiency. UPoE technology also eliminates cables and connectors, letting employees make better use of their office space.
By using IPS rather than TN (twisted nematic) panels, the 23-inch monitor boasts lifelike color reproduction and picture quality regardless of viewing angle. The N2311AZ also reduces eye fatigue, making it the ideal monitor for visual-based occupations like graphic design.

LG INTRODUCES THE FIRST REAL STREAMING MULTIMEDIA CLOUD FOR ALL THREE SCREENS

Unique Cloud Service Offers Content Consumption and
Seamless Connectivity via TVs, Mobile Devices and PCs

A model introduces the LG Cloud service which is compatible with TVs, mobile devices and PCs while lying down on the floor

SEOUL, APR. 30, 2012 — LG Electronics (LG) announced the beta opening of LG Cloud service on May 1 with the aim of providing seamless connectivity and streaming access to all digital content across various electronic devices. Although cloud is today’s hottest IT buzzwords, LG Cloud is the first that allows users to manage and consume all types of content on “three screens” which includes Android smartphones, PCs and smart TVs (including but not limited to CINEMA 3D models) without a separate set-top box.
To use the service, users need to download the LG Cloud app from Google Play or LG SmartWorld app store from their Android smartphones, LG SmartWorld store from their LG Smart TVs or the LG Cloud website (www.lgecloud.com) from their PCs or laptops. LG’s Cloud service automatically synchronizes smartphone content with the cloud server and the user’s PC and TV. Photos and videos taken with the smartphone can be viewed and streamed to the PC or TV almost instantaneously. Videos edited on a PC can be uploaded to LG Cloud for viewing seconds later on a smartphone. Unlike other cloud services, there’s very little waiting or lag time since the content is streamed to the TV, PC or smartphone, not downloaded first.
The difference is in LG’s Real-time Streaming Transcoding technology. The conversion happens on the server in realtime, not on the device. There is no need to worry about installing codecs or converters, everything happens seamlessly and in the background with no involvement from the user. No other cloud service can make this same claim.
The service also works perfectly with 3D content. Vacation videos taken with an LG 3D smartphone can be uploaded via 3G or Wi-Fi to the LG Cloud service. Back home in the comforts of the living room, the family can watch the vacation footage as it streams from LG Cloud to their LG CINEMA 3D Smart TV in superb three dimensions.
To better develop cloud services that prioritize convergence, LG created a new division called Smart Business Center to focus specifically on content and services. Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG’s Home Entertainment Company, is also responsible for the new Smart Business Center.
“Most companies today only see the cloud as a storage device or in the case of YouTube or Flickr, only for one type of content,” said LG’s Mr. Kwon. “LG makes the devices that millions of people watch content on so we can set a new yardstick for ease of use by setting up our own cloud service. Tomorrow’s consumers don’t want to go to one cloud for music, another cloud for video, another location for photos and yet another cloud for their office files. In the end, our solution is about making life more convenient.”
LG Cloud will be offered as both a free and paid service. Free storage space and pricing will differ market to market and will be announced separately as the service becomes available in that country.
