Smart Green Seas: Restoring the Mediterranean’s Ancient Underwater Forests

Beneath the azure waters of the Mediterranean lies one of nature’s oldest living treasures: the Posidonia oceanica meadows. Known as the “lungs of the sea,” these underwater forests capture carbon, protect coastlines and provide a home for marine life. Inspired by their resilience, LG Spain has launched Smart Green Seas, another chapter of its Smart Green Movement. The mission? To bring technology, community and science together to restore fragile marine ecosystems and create a lasting positive impact.

As 2024 wrapped up, LG Spain celebrated a milestone in environmental action. In partnership with the Vellmarí Association, the Smart Green Seas team restored 600 square meters of seagrass meadows between Ibiza and Formentera – planting 15,510 Posidonia shoots, exceeding the original target by 155 percent.

The work was made possible thanks to more than 30 dedicated local divers who carried out over 500 dives. Their efforts resulted in a 75 percent survival rate for the new plants – a strong start toward building healthier seas.

Smart Green Seas marks the evolution of LG Spain’s Sustainability 2.0 strategy. After years of focusing on reforestation on land, the Smart Green Movement is now taking action beneath the waves. Led by National Geographic explorer and marine biologist Manu San Félix, the project has set up an underwater nursery where seeds collected from nearby beaches are carefully germinated and replanted using a low-impact, scalable method. The goal: help the ocean thrive and regain its natural balance.

This initiative also supports the United Nations’ goal of restoring 30 percent of degraded marine ecosystems by 2030. The Posidonia meadows in the Balearic Islands – recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site – are among the best preserved on the planet, making their protection crucial in the fight against climate change.

By combining science, community involvement and hands-on conservation, LG Spain is showing how companies can go beyond promises to deliver measurable results.

And this is only the beginning. In 2025, LG and Vellmarí plan to double their impact: planting another 30,000 Posidonia shoots, expanding partnerships with local diving centers and continuing to improve survival rates. Step by step, Smart Green Seas is helping the Mediterranean breathe easier by steadily advancing its mission to absorb CO₂ and restore balance to global ecosystems.

LG Introduces Intelligent, Innovative Cleaning With New Vacuums at IFA 2025

Tailored for the European Market, Company’s New Range of Vacuum Solutions Offers
Enhanced Convenience and Performance

SEOUL, Aug. 28, 2025 — LG Electronics (LG) is showcasing four new vacuum cleaning solutions designed expressly for the European market at IFA 2025. The lineup includes a robot vacuum with steam mop, a built-in robot vacuum station, a stick vacuum and a wet-dry stick vacuum. Offering enhanced convenience, powerful performance and seamless design, LG’s latest innovations reaffirm the brand’s commitment to making everyday life easier for customers across Europe.

Deep Clean Meets Everyday Comfort
Significantly upgraded from its predecessor, the new LG robot vacuum raises the bar for home cleaning solutions with advanced features, functionality and the satisfaction of aesthetically blending into your home with its furniture-like looks. Its steam mopping capability effectively removes grease and liquid spills, while the freestanding, furniture-like docking station self-sterilizes the mop with hot water and steam, keeping it clean and odor-free after each use. With more than double the suction power of last year’s model, it delivers a deeper clean on both hard and carpeted floors.

Equipped with an on-device AI chip, the robot vacuum recognizes a range of environmental factors – from dirt and dust to furniture and other household objects – enabling more precise navigation and cleaning. Its AI carpet detection system automatically returns the vacuum to the docking station to detach the mop when carpeted areas are detected, helping prevent staining and improving cleaning efficiency. Stylish yet practical, the docking station blends seamlessly with any interior for a clean, modern look. Furthermore, the new robot vacuum incorporates the LG Shield security platform to keep customers’ data safe and secure.

Hidden Fit, Hands-free Experience
Developed with European homes in mind, LG’s built-in robot vacuum station is designed to fit neatly into unused space beneath the kitchen sink, enabling a tidy and space-efficient installation. An auto-opening door, nearly invisible when closed, allows the vacuum to enter and return without user intervention, helping maintain a minimalist kitchen aesthetic.

The built-in station features an air circulation system that dampens noise during automatic dust disposal, helping preserve a quieter indoor environment. It also offers a fully automated, hands-free experience with auto water supply and draining. In addition, a turbidity sensor monitors mop cleanliness in real time and automatically initiates washing when soiling is detected, ensuring thorough, efficient cleaning with less energy use.

Enduring Performance
Unlike conventional cordless vacuums that often lose suction due to clogging from pet hair and fine dust, LG’s new stick vacuum provides consistent, powerful performance. Its Micro Cyclone technology and new filter cleaning system delivers stable suction power every time.

Building on its predecessor’s allergy-aware design, the model includes an auto dust disposal system that minimizes exposure to dust particles when emptying the bin. Additionally, it includes a compact, free-standing storage and recharging station with a small footprint, allowing users to conveniently place it almost anywhere in their home.

Effortless Cleaning and Care
LG is also introducing its new wet-dry stick vacuum, a product that meets growing consumer demand throughout Europe for a lighter, more convenient cleaning solution. Lightweight and easy to maneuver, it helps reduce wrist strain and fatigue during cleaning. The AI Roller Control function further lessens the burden on users’ wrists and contributes to overall ease-of-operation, ensuring the vacuum moves smoothly when pushed and pulled across different surfaces.

Combining advanced capabilities of LG’s AI technology, the vacuum learns from users’ cleaning patterns to optimize efficiency. Its roller delivers powerful suction that lifts both liquid messes – such as sauces – and larger solid particles like cereal and pet food. Built-in LED lighting helps users spot debris in low-light conditions. For hygiene, the mop head undergoes hot water washing, steam sterilization and hot air drying – keeping the mop head fresh and the vacuum clean.

“LG’s new vacuums are designed for European homes and lifestyles, delivering reliable performance along with greater comfort, hygiene and peace of mind,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of the LG Home Appliance Solution Company. “We are committed to introducing innovations that meet the diverse needs of our customers and create effortless ease and elegance in everyday life.”

LG’s latest vacuum lineup and other home appliance solutions will be on display at the company’s IFA 2025 exhibition booth (Hall 18, Messe Berlin) in Berlin, Germany, from September 5-9.

LG Expands AI Infrastructure Footprint Across Asia

Company Reinforces Global Leadership in Data Center Cooling Solutions

SEOUL, Aug. 22, 2025 — LG Electronics (LG) has been announced as the cooling solutions provider for a large-scale AI data center currently under construction in Jakarta, Indonesia. Upon completion, the facility is set to become one of the largest of its kind in Indonesia. LG’s selection underscores its proven ability to deliver end-to-end thermal management systems tailored specifically to the unique demands of AI infrastructure.

As part of the project, LG will supply a comprehensive package of advanced cooling technologies, including chillers and room cooling systems such as computer room air handlers (CRAH), air handling units (AHU), computer room air conditioners (CRAC) and fan wall units (FWU). A customized building management system (BMS) will also be implemented to ensure seamless integration and control. Designed to meet the exacting requirements of the client, LG’s integrated package will ensure efficient and reliable thermal management throughout the state-of-the-art AI facility.

This landmark project exemplifies the success of the “One LG Solution” strategy, which brings together the capabilities of several LG Group affiliates – including LG Electronics – to deliver large-scale infrastructure projects. The Jakarta data center is being developed by LG Sinarmas Technology Solutions, a joint venture between LG CNS and Sinar Mas Group. Strategically located in Jakarta’s central business district, the facility is scheduled to begin operations in the second half of 2026.

A key piece of LG’s integrated package is the Water-cooled Oil-free Centrifugal Chiller, which is widely used across multiple industries and is fast becoming an essential infrastructure component for data centers. The new lineup meets a growing demand for sustainable appliances in the European market, with energy-efficient laundry products that accommodate a variety of lifestyles and living spaces.

At the center of the lineup is the LG HeatPump WasherDryer – also known as LG WashCombo – which integrates the essential benefits of LG’s washer and dryer in an all-in-one unit. First introduced in Europe as part of LG’s premium SIGNATURE lineup, the original model earned the highest efficiency rating of Energy Class A for its full washing-to-drying cycle. Equipped with cutting-edge DUAL Inverter HeatPump™ technology and low-GWP refrigerants such as R290, the WasherDryer delivers exceptional energy efficiency while meeting Europe’s strict standards. In addition, advanced AI motion control enhances energy efficiency to the industry’s highest level. Leveraging AI Core-Tech driven by LG’s innovative AI DD™ technology, the washers’ AI Wash™ function detects weight to select the optimal wash pattern – minimizing damage to delicate fabrics while consuming less energy.

Powered by the AI Dual Inverter™ technology, the AI Dry™ feature intelligently detects the weight, fabric type and humidity of the load, to adjust the drying speed, particularly for soft fabrics and reduce energy consumption.

LG Secures Top Cybersecurity Certification at Largest Vehicle Component Production Base

Hai Phong Plant Achieves TÜV Rheinland CSMS Level 3 Certification

SEOUL, Aug. 20, 2025 — LG Electronics (LG), a leading innovator in mobility technology, today announced that its Hai Phong manufacturing facility in Vietnam – the company’s largest production hub for vehicle components – has earned Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) Level 3 certification from TÜV Rheinland, a global testing and certification agency. The certification ceremony was held on August 19 (local time) at the Hai Phong plant.

CSMS is an internationally recognized framework that assesses whether cybersecurity processes are systematically applied across the entire lifecycle of vehicles and automotive components, from planning and development to production, operation and post-production management.

Hai Phong is the first facility in the world, among TÜV Rheinland-certified cases, to be awarded both CSMS Level 2 and Level 3 certifications simultaneously. This achievement extends the CSMS Level 3 certification previously awarded to LG Vehicle Solution (VS) Company’s management system, validating Hai Phong’s ability to apply rigorous cybersecurity measures in mass production.

As LG VS Company’s largest vehicle component manufacturing site, Hai Phong produces the majority of products supplied to major global automakers. By establishing and applying advanced cybersecurity management systems at the facility, LG VS Company has reinforced its position as an industry leader in protecting automotive components from emerging digital threats.

The need for robust cybersecurity at both key administrative and production facilities has become essential amid the industry-wide shift toward Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs). Cybersecurity risks during manufacturing are increasing, making it critical for suppliers to implement strong, standardized safeguards.

Global regulatory requirements reiterate this urgency. The UNECE R155 regulation, implemented in 2021 and adopted by the European Union and 56 countries across Asia, Oceania and Africa, mandates that vehicles be certified with a CSMS before entering the market. Since July 2024, only vehicles meeting this requirement have been allowed in these markets, with the U.S. and China also tightening their automotive cybersecurity regulations.

LG has steadily strengthened cybersecurity across all areas of LG VS Company. At the corporate administrative level, LG achieved CSMS Level 2 certification in 2023 and Level 3 certification last year. With Hai Phong now Level 3 certified, the company plans to pursue certification for its other major manufacturing facilities.

In 2024, LG also earned the Automotive SPICE for Cybersecurity certification, a standard developed by European OEMs to evaluate the cybersecurity and software reliability of automotive component suppliers. Major U.S. automakers, including General Motors and Ford, are now adopting this standard for supplier assessments as well.

“Internationally recognized cybersecurity certifications such as CSMS Level 3 strengthen our position as a trusted partner to global automakers,” said Eun Seok-hyun, president of the LG VS Company. “Through an unmatched commitment to security and quality, LG will continue to enhance its leadership in the automotive components market.”

LG Presents New Space- and Energy-Efficient Refrigerator Lineup at IFA 2025

Optimized for Modern Living, Company’s New Fit & Max Refrigerators Deliver Stylish,
User-Centric Design and Smart Performance to European Kitchens

SEOUL, Aug. 19, 2025 — LG Electronics (LG) is unveiling its latest refrigerator lineup for the European market at IFA 2025. Designed to deliver top-tier energy efficiency, the new french door and bottom-freezer models have been developed specifically for Europe’s unique housing environments and consumer lifestyles, reflecting LG’s extensive research into local needs and preferences. The lineup combines energy-saving performance, smart features and space-efficient styling that integrates seamlessly into modern homes.

Outstanding Energy Efficiency
Responding to increased demand for energy-efficient appliances across Europe, LG is introducing models that meet – and significantly surpass – the European Union’s highest (“A”) energy rating. The new bottom-freezer model exceeds the requirement for the A rating, while the french door model has impressively earned an A rating, despite being in a category where such ratings are rare.

LG’s exceptional energy efficiency was made possible by its optimized insulation design tailored for the European market, as well as AI-based features that help reduce electricity consumption by learning household usage patterns and optimizing compressor operation during periods of low activity.

Fit & Max: Perfect Fit and Maximum Performance
Designed for Europe’s typically compact kitchens, the new lineup features LG’s Zero Clearance Hinge, enabling doors to open fully (up to 110 degrees) even when placed flush against a wall. Sleek exteriors with LG’s Premium Flat Door design create a refined, built-in look.

AI-powered features elevate convenience and efficiency to make every day easier and power bills more manageable. AI Fresh monitors your door-opening habits over three weeks and lowers the temperature in advance during peak times. LG Adopts Eco-Conscious Manufacturing Innovations for 4-Way System Air Conditioner

Serious About Sustainability, Company Introduces New Material and Production
Process to Minimize Environmental Impact

SEOUL, Aug. 18, 2025 — LG Electronics (LG) is reducing plastic consumption and carbon emissions by adopting a new material and manufacturing process for its commercial 4-way system air conditioners. Aligned with the company’s Better Life for All ESG vision, these latest efforts demonstrate an unwavering commitment to minimizing environmental impacts.

TÜV Rheinland, a global testing and certification organization, recently confirmed that LG’s newly instituted production process has lowered carbon emissions from the manufacturing of its 4-way system air conditioners to 14.85 kilograms of CO₂ equivalents* per unit. Along with the shift in manufacturing method, the primary driver of this reduction is the introduction of a new material used for the air conditioners’ exterior panels.

Moving away from conventional plastic manufacturing techniques, LG employs a foaming injection molding process whereby nitrogen gas is injected into the mold to create bubbles within the material. This innovative approach reduces plastic use by approximately 900 grams per unit. Additionally, LG has replaced the use of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) with Polypropylene (PP), which has a lower carbon footprint.

These improvements are expected to cut plastic consumption by roughly 270 tons annually and CO₂ equivalent carbon emissions by over 4,400 tons each year – a reduction comparable to the carbon absorbed in one year by a 30-year-old pine forest covering more than 580 soccer fields.

LG began applying its foaming injection molding method to 4-way system air conditioners in June and plans to gradually expand it to other residential and commercial models.

In pursuit of carbon neutrality, LG aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 54.6 percent by 2030 compared to 2017 levels, as outlined in its Sustainability Report. To reach this target, the company is integrating high-efficiency equipment into its manufacturing processes and adopting renewable energy sources to produce high-efficiency appliances leveraging its proprietary Core Tech.

A prime example of Core Tech is LG’s inverter motor technology, which minimizes energy waste by adjusting motor and compressor speeds in real time according to demand. The company has also advanced its environmental compliance by launching an inverter scroll chiller using R32 refrigerant, which has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) about 30 percent lower than R410A refrigerant.

“The new material and manufacturing process we’ve introduced for our 4-way system air conditioner underscored our efforts to minimizing environmental impacts,” said Bae Cheung-hyun, head of the System Air Conditioners Business at the LG ES Company. “LG will continue to leverage innovative technologies to develop eco-conscious air conditioners for a healthier planet.”

LG Heritage Fan: Rediscover the Original, Redesigned for Today

This summer, LG has stirred up a gentle, nostalgia-infused breeze with its classically cool Heritage Fan – a product that bridges the past and the present. The “D-301” fan, along with other iconic LG products of yesteryear, has been lovingly recreated, given a contemporary twist and rereleased to celebrate the company’s pivotal role in shaping the home appliance industry in Korea.

The story behind the fan goes way back. LG’s roots trace to 1947, when LuckyChemical Co. became Korea’s first plastics manufacturer. A little over a decade later, in 1958, the company established Goldstar Co. – the country’s first electronics company. Goldstar helped pioneer the country’s burgeoning home appliance industry, introducing groundbreaking products like the D-301. This electric fan was not only the first to be manufactured domestically, but also became a symbol of modern convenience and national pride. It was Goldstar that opened doors for Korean-made electronics in the global market, and of course, laid the foundations for today’s LG Electronics you know today.

To faithfully revive this beloved product, LG took a hands-on approach. The team tracked down original D-301 units still owned by longtime customers – some of whom proudly shared that their vintage fans are still running strong. These well-preserved models became key references in recreating the look and feel of the original while upgrading its internals for today’s users.

The result? The timeless charm of the D-301, reborn as the Heritage Fan – a limited-edition remake that brings together retro design and contemporary technology. From its curved frame and analog dial to the engraved Goldstar crown logo, it stays true to the spirit of the 1960s original. Inside, though, it’s been completely updated with a high-efficiency BLDC motor, whisper-quiet operation and a rechargeable battery that delivers up to 10 hours of cordless use. It’s both a design statement and a practical companion for everyday life.

Though not available for sale, the Heritage Fan has attracted enthusiastic attention online. People appreciated the thoughtful design and nostalgic aesthetic, and some even expressed interest in seeing it made more widely available. What began as a tribute to LG’s legacy has unexpectedly become a talking point across generations.

More than just a product, the Heritage Fan is a celebration of LG’s legacy – its role in shaping the everyday lives of generations and its continued commitment to innovation that feels personal and warm. By reimagining the D-301 for today, LG is honoring where it came from while carrying the Life’s Good spirit into the future.

Because some designs are too good to leave in the past – and some memories are worth reliving with every breeze. To discover more about the Heritage Fan and the story behind its timeless design, visit the dedicated microsite here.

Shining a Light on Mexican Heritage at the Inaugural LG OLED Film Festival

Sometimes, all it takes is a few minutes of film to move you – to stir emotion, preserve memory or reflect the soul of a nation. In Mexico, where tradition runs deep and culture is rich, short films offer a powerful lens into identity, storytelling and history.

That spirit was front and center at the country’s first-ever LG OLED Film Festival, a celebration made possible by LG Mexico and the iconic Cineteca Nacional, Mexico’s leading institution for cultural cinema.

This debut festival featured over 30 short films, each offering a distinct perspective on Mexican customs, indigenous roots and the artistry of visual storytelling. More than just a celebration of creativity, the event showed how cutting-edge technology can help preserve – and amplify – authentic voices.

The films were showcased in the LG OLED Cinema Room at Cineteca Nacional, recently named the 17th most beautiful cinema in the world by Time Out Magazine. Outfitted with LG OLED displays, the space delivered an unmatched viewing experience – thanks to perfect blacks, vivid colors and immersive surround sound.

Daniel Aguilar, corporate communications director of LG Mexico

As part of the global Life’s Good campaign, the OLED Film Festival illustrated how innovation can deepen our connections to each other. Under the theme “Less Artificial, More Human,” the event underscored how technology can elevate cultural storytelling, spark empathy and preserve collective memory in ways no other medium can.

Curated by Pixelatl, a leading Mexican organization for graphic and audiovisual storytelling, the lineup included shorts that focused on indigenous languages, rituals and communities. These were shown alongside restored works by legendary animator Dominique Jonard and several critically acclaimed titles:

  • “Carne de Dios” by Patricio Plaza: Set in colonial Mexico, a Spanish friar suffering from a mysterious illness is brought to a curandera – a traditional healer. As the curandera performs an ancient ritual to cure him, the experience triggers profound and unexpected effects on his body and mind.
  • “Mi abuela Matilde” by Miguel Anaya: When young María is left in the care of her grandmother, she must learn the essential skills for an independent life. Tensions rise until a childhood secret helps them rediscover their connection and compassion.
  • “Hasta los huesos” by René Castillo: A man journeys into the Land of the Dead, where he encounters a surreal world of worms, dancing skeletons and the iconic Catrina. Gradually, he realizes that being dead isn’t as daunting as he thought.

The festival’s opening keynote, “Animation with Indigenous Communities” by Luis Jurado, featured four themed screenings: Childhood, Musical Mexico, Rituals and Customs, and The Best of Pixelatl (2019–2024).

To extend the festival’s impact beyond the big screen, LG brought the OLED experience to Villa de las Niñas, a school in the State of Mexico supporting over 3,000 indigenous girls from vulnerable backgrounds.

For one day, the school’s auditorium transformed into a pop-up cinema, giving students a magical, first-hand experience with film. It wasn’t just about watching movies – it was an invitation to dream, explore and connect.

LG’s support for Villa de las Niñas extends beyond this event. The company has equipped the school with more than 70 premium displays, laser projectors, washing machines and kitchen appliances – helping improve everyday life for students and teachers alike.

To amplify awareness and drive support for the school, LG Mexico invited media and influencers to experience the event. The campaign reached over 18.5 million people, highlighting LG’s commitment to social impact while boosting brand visibility through meaningful, purpose-driven storytelling.

The first OLED Film Festival in Mexico brought together the best of technology, culture and creativity – proving that a screen can be more than just a source of entertainment. It can preserve heritage, spark imagination and connect generations.
